Huh? Car and Driver says the GC SRT8 does 13.7@103. Thats not even a threat. They're also saying this does 12.5@113 stock, so something is wrong.

13.7 would be if it was broken. The guys on the forums are reporting mid to high 12s with a tune and CAI/etc.Mike_Levy wrote:Huh? Car and Driver says the GC SRT8 does 13.7@103. Thats not even a threat. They're also saying this does 12.5@113 stock, so something is wrong.

I dunno. Maybe it takes really well to the tune then. They got 13.7@103 when they tested against the other super utes and 13.4@104 when they ran it by itself. Chrysler is also advertising mid-13s. Its definitely slower than the first gen, which any idiot could run 13.2 with.

Re: BMW N63/S63
Yeah, some digging shows most stockers running 13.30-13.40, with weak ass trap speeds. Kinda surprised how slow they are
There are a few on drag radials and tunes that are running easy high 12s, so the stock tune is not helping for sure.

Re: BMW N63/S63
$65k for an inferior truck. Better spent on a year old X5M or Range Rover Sport Supercharged or couple year old ML63 or Cayenne Turbo.
Just like Chrysler to jack up prices and give inferior performance. They did the same thing with the new Viper, thats hardly as good as a 4 year old ZR1 and still can't touch a GT-R or 911 Turbo. When will they (GM, Chrysler and t a lesser extent Ford) learn that forced induction and twin clutch gearboxes are the future and that big displacement natural aspiration and stick shifts are antiquated garbage?

Next Ford racing Cobra Jet will be a TT 5.0 most likely. The new CTS V-sport is a TT 3.6 V6. Most firmly believe the next ZL1/CTS-V/ZR1 will be a TT setup as well.Mike_Levy wrote:$65k for an inferior truck. Twin clutch gearboxes....might take a while on this side of the pond

Re: BMW N63/S63
The twin clutches are a MUST HAVE. The antiquated manuals are whats keeping the performance down on the cars. Put a twin clutch in a Viper and it would be an easy .2-.3 quicker through the quarter. The GT500 even more so. Twin clutch, good IRS, all wheel drive and its a 10 second car. Not to mention sales would triple, at least. I'd buy one, and I hate Ford with a passion. I know Smackdown would buy one, too, if it was as good as the GT-R with more power.

Re: BMW N63/S63
I have had good luck with my 545i so far, approaching 100k miles and it has taken a beating. I ran 13.33@106 with it earlier this year and trapped as high as 108. That was with my winter setup still on it LOL Tiny 215/50 17 Blizzaks so no warming up the tires at all. ONLY mod is a muffler delete for sound. As far as I can find I have the fastest 1/4 time yet for a 545i and beat most if not all the times for a 550i. I think most guys can't drive a stick too well. Mine is a 6spd manual as I hate autos.
My buddy just ran a 9.84@141 a few weeks ago in his 2010 GT500 with a bone stock motor and trans, 21lbs of boost with a 2.3 TVS. Pretty basic setup but he can drive. I have a 2011 GT500 and ran 12.45@116 babying it off the line and granny shifting the 1-2 due to severe traction issues with the stock tires. Slicks coming soon for track use, the G:2 Goodyears are killer in the corners, no wonder they manage over 1.00G on skidpad.

Re: BMW N63/S63
The old 5 and 6 speeds in BMWs were not good transmissions. They're slow to shift and like to get to the higher gears as soon as possible. The new 8 speeds are amazing. They'll actually hold the lower gears, which makes them significantly quicker. All the magazines are showing them to be quicker than the manuals in the 3, 5, and 6 series cars, both 6 and 8 cylinder.
Edmunds did a 13.2@108.3 with an 8 speed 550i back in 2011 and more recently a 550i Xdrive did 12.8@111mph in Autoweek, while C&D compared an auto and manual and ran both at 13.1@109, though the auto was .3 quicker to 60.

Re: BMW N63/S63
Yea I have read of too many issues with the older auto and SMG so I got a manual car. I assume those newer ones are probably heavier too. I still have to say for a rated 325hp this 545i impresses me.Mike_Levy wrote:The old 5 and 6 speeds in BMWs were not good transmissions. Re: BMW N63/S63
Gotta bring this back up. Picking up my N63 550Xi GT on Friday. Still need a tune for the 4.4L TT V8s. Dinan's making an extra 101hp on the non-M motor with their Stage 2 tune, but at nearly $3k, its not an option.
smackdownsrt just bought an X5M too, so he'll be interested in S63 tuning too.
