Okay guys, BMW N55

Post by Mike_Levy »

Its time. Need tuning for the 3.0L Turbo I6. Put in an order for a 2015 335 Gran Turismo. Since its a lease, real mods are no good, or I wouldn't even ask and would use a piggyback. Need support for this car. Cobb only goes to 2011. I know for sure that there is a HUGE market for later ones (as I'm sure Johan can attest to, even though he left).

A fair priced tuner would be huge for this market. Lease prices have gotten fairly low (I'm paying less for a loaded new 335 than I was for the 4 year old 750), and people are looking for stuff that they can use and remove without spending a fortune.

They keep changing it. It was the Bosche MEVD 17.26 for a year, then they went to the MEVD 17.2S for 8 months, and now I have no idea what they're using. Looks like the 17.2X or Y. Can I assume those computers are all the same family and the last digit is the revision?

No, those bosch boxes will change tremendously from one rev to another.
Thats what makes them so difficult to develop tuners for, you have to do all the work for one year, and that only gets you one year, then you have to start over for the other year/ECU.

Dinan has them all covered in one unit. At $2,000 though, its not realistic for many owners.

Not even sure what it is. Kinda looks like a piggyback, but they call it a tuner.

OKay, did some research. The MEVD 17.2S tuning works with the current ECUs. BMWs M-Performance kit uses the same tuning for both computers, and different for the 17.26.

Gotta get this out Mike, please. I don't wanna put a piggyback on a lease and then have to keep removing it when I go to the dealer.

Nevermind. Talked to Dinan today. They say the new computers are virtually impossible to crack. Thats why even they went piggyback with the F3x cars. If somebody as familiar with BMW as they are can't get in, you guys aren't getting in either. :(

Unfortunately not. Dinan can't get in, none of the normal German tuners can get in, Cobb decided to not even try. Nobody is getting into these new ECUs. Its gonna take BMW hardware and software to get into them.

Of course, if you wanted to try, I'm not gonna be against it, and you know I'm always available for testing. I'll be in Orlando near the end of March and can drive down.

IT'S BEEN CRACKED!!

This company claims they can reprogram the Fxx cars with the Bosch DME. http://www.br-performance.be/nl-be/nieu ... s-essence/

If they can do it, you guys can do it. So how about doing it?

They're all pretty much the same. Once you get in, all the cars have the same stuff to change, so tune one, you've tuned them all.

I emailed them, but I doubt that I'll get a response since they won't understand what I said.

Also decided to have the dealer request the the M Performance Power Kit (+35hp, +32ft/lbs) be put on my car if it can be done at the port, just in case it doesn't get cracked. I can't bring myself to splice wires on a lease for a piggy, especially since the dealer says BMW is checking.
