BMW F-Series Back end flash?

Post by Mike_Levy »

Not 100% sure what a backend flash is, but we need one for the F2x and F3x with the N55. Guys are using Cobb for it on the E-series cars, but they're not good enough to crack the F-series apparently. I think it works with the piggybacks to adjust fueling or something. Its mostly used with bigger turbos, which are getting quite popular.

Anyway, haven't bothered you guys in a while, so I put up a thread on N54Tech to see if theres enough interest.

The E-series is up to 2011 I believe and the F-series is the newer ones. The F-series is more heavily encrypted apparently.

The PCM is the Bosch MEVD-172.G in my car, though cars built prior to 11/13 use the MEVD-1726 or MEVD-172.S according to the parts book.

Info on this site has a whole bunch of DMEs that seem to work the same way for tuning. http://www.chevyboost.com/content.php?5 ... -s-cracked

It looks like these may have to be done like the 2015 Mopars. From what I'm hearing they may not be crackable.

The consensus seems to be that nobody is cracking these without the keys from BMW. Not even sure if its worth trying. 18 months I'll be getting out of it anyway and bothering you guys to do something else. :P

I'll be down there for 3 weeks in December (still looking for a place) if you wanna have a look anyway.

Well, nothing is getting any easier, eventually we're gonna be doing some serious reverse engineering that will likely open lots of doors to other platforms :)

Ugh. I hate this. Spend $60k on a car and the manufacturer still won't let us do what we want to them. Sometimes I think it would be better to buy a $500 Fiero and build a supercar out of it.

Thats just posing. I prefer the kits that don't rebody, but accentuate the Fieros, like the widebody ones from V8Archie. I think the Fiero hatch is a great looking car. No need to make it into a poser Italian.

Anyway, still looking for a back end flash. Time for a bigger turbo, more ethanol and a bigger fuel pump. I'm about done with the stock pump and turbo at 20psi on E40.

I think you'll find a viable solution before we can offer anything realistic ;)

I found one, but they want like $1500 to open up the PCM, mod it in some way and flash it. Still hoping to find a cheaper, and way less intrusive, way.

well, it took about 6 months to figure out how to do that on the 15 DCX, and thats only because we know GPEC2 forward and back, this will not be so simple I'm sure.

Theres no shortage of people looking to tune the turbo Bimmers, I have a feeling it would be readily available if it were easily doable ;)
