Blown Engine 2016 F150 3.5L

Post by spj0487 »

Just wanted to see if I’m the only one to have to replace an engine. 30k miles on the 93 tune while cruising at 45 mph, when suddenly “ bang” no more rpm. Dealer said the piston turned into many little pieces and I’m currently waiting on a new motor. Just curious to see if I’m the only one.

I have seen lots of them blow up, but tunes arent the cause. Lots of them blowing up stock.

Theres plenty of more aggressive tunes out there than the diablo people no issue with. Since you were cruising, the load on the engine was light and that would lead me to believe there was a flaw in that piston to begin with or somehow the engine went way lean. These motors do have cast pistons which don't typically last long if detonation occurs. Sorry about your experience, hopefully it gets resolved with minimal butt pain.
