Regear or custom tune?

Post by Farmerdan »

Hi all, I have a 2012 5.3 Silverado 4x4. I'm currently running a k&N cold air induction, Gibson cat back duel exhaust. I'm running the 93 octane tune and I'm just wanting some opinions. I'm pulling a 6,000lb travel trailer and I don't know if I should regear from 3.42 to 3.73 or try a custom tune? I'm just wanting a little more power than the tune I'm running now. Opinions are appreciated. Thanks Dan

I have re-geared my last two trucks from 3.42 to 3.73 and it made all the difference in the world when towing my travel trailer (over six thousand miles towing Mich, to West Coast twice and Mich to Fla plus lots of in state towing). 3.42 is not a towing gear, I got better mileage when not towing also. Trailer weighed about the same as yours.

Thanks for the info. I'm leaning that way, the truck feels pretty good but taking off and long grades are rough. Dan

Dont Forget if you regear the rear gear , you HAVE to regear the front gear on a 4x4
