Updater failed to download

I just opened my i2 and downloaded the windows software. The device updated fine then i followed the onscreen directions to setup wifi which worked fine. The problem starts when i hit the check for updates button, it says please wait and then comes up with the following.
Updater Failed to Download:
An error occurred while checking for updates.

please update on a pc, and it will update the wifi updater and it should work via wifi from there.
