My teacher about cold air intakes. Is he right?

Post by Kinysp »

Hello everyone!

So today I was notified by my auto-shop teacher that cold air intakes actually do not gain power but just makes it unnecessary and says to keep the stock air intake box. He actually advocates keeping an engine all stock with no modifications because that is not what the ECU was tuned for nor was the engine made for those kinds of MODS. What is your opinion on this?

My other questions:
1) Is it worth having these MODS on my car?
2) What Modifications are actually useful for a stock engine like my ka24de?
3) Off-topic question: Does anybody play slots or roulette? What do you think about these best online casinos

I appreciate any help, thank you very much!

I don't think your shop teach thought before he spoke.
Air kits/ cold air kits do no add power. neither does underdrive pulleys, larger throttle bodys off road pipes and cat backs. What an air kit does is reduce the amount of power being used by the crankshaft to pull a given piston down during the intake stroke. Look at it this way, drinking a liquid through a straw. the bigger inside diameter the straw is the less work you have to do to get the fluid into your mouth. also coke v milk shake...
The air kit did not add power, it was already there. you removed an actual loss or hindered power by improving intake air flow.(reduced restriction) Provided there was an actual improvement that took place.
The pcm has correction factors that can adjust to a degree for changes such as an air kit and lower ambient temps and higher baro pressures.
There isn't anything out there that ADDS power.
turbos, supers, nitrous, cams and big heads, as an example.
THESE DO NOT ADD POWER! they all do the same thing...
Once you figure this out, you can teach the teacher a thing or 3.
