surgeing at about 45-60 mph

Post by Moustache »

Till 2 weeks ago it was running good and I've been playing with my tuner trying to see wich mode is better fuel milage and I noticed that it started to surge at about 45-60 mph.
I have the 9r11 update in the u7165 tuner in my 2006 f-350.
If anyone can help me, don't hasitate.
The only difference now compered to 2 weeks ago, is now its alot warmer outside. Thats the only thing that comes to mind.

havent heard of surging in the 6.0s so there isnt much to check on my end. Your truck may not like the extra timing but it shouldnt. I mean logging the truck with the predator, diagnostics>realtime data. Does it do this on the stock tune?

I'm going to try the real time data and try it on stock tune and I'll get back to you.

sounds good, that might give me an idea, try and log before it does it and during while its doing the surging.

Yesterday I brought my truck back to stock tune and it was not surgeing. But that was after I tried it on econo. Then it was parked for at least 8 hours and then I tried it again on stock tune and it was doing it. And when I say surgeing, it sorth of bucks at 45-60 mph. It only does it when its cold. Thats a new thing it does now. I tried the real time data but I have no idea what I'm looking for!!!
Anyways, its not a tuner problem, its the truck, but if you have any ideas of what could cause it, please let me know.
Thanks for your time

I am going to say it may be the egr or an injector problem. The egr are bastards on these trucks. I know on the 6.4 they will cause boost to stay relatively high at cruising speeds when they get plugged up. On the 6.0 the coolers usually break dumping coolant into the chamber. Other problems with the 6.0 is after alot of miles, the vanes on the turbo get a bunch of crap built up on them and need to be cleaned. Try this. Go get yourself two cans of seafoam, dump one in the tank on a relatively empty tank and drive it around and see how she does, then try the second. Make sure the tank is near empty and drive it for as long as you can safely before refueling. There are no dtc's present correct? When logging you want to log all or "fuel" if there is an option, just record it then export it with dataviewer and send me the log

Thanks for your time Don.
When you say "There are no dtc's present correct? " You mean codes??? Because there were no codes present.
And the egr was cleaned not to long ago and the egr cooler was change last March in 2009. When I start the engine and even after there is no white smoke, coolant will make white smoke.
I'm guessing if I re-do a live data log on all the fuel sensors, and log it, I'll be able to send it to you. Just one way to find out. I'll try it.
Thanks Don C
Where do I get seafoam???? I've never saw or heard about it.
Thanks

Don, can you explain to me how to export with dataviewer so that I can send you all the logging I have. I have everything in the tuner, but I just can't seen to be able to export it.
Thanks in advance

open dataviewer and let it find the tool. Once it does, go to the top left and it will say export log from tool when you hover over one of the icons, hit that and it will bring up a list of stored logs on the tool, upload it and then send it to me.
