BMW N63/S63

Post by Mike_Levy »

Please crack these. Looks like I'm gonna end up with an X5 50i with the N63 4.4L Turbo V8. Theres gotta be TONS of power in these. BMW started offering factory tunes on 2013 M models good for 40hp and 30ft/lbs. You guys can undoubtedly go more aggressive then they do, and up the boost. 90-100hp, 100-125ft/lbs should be easy for you guys. Plus it uses the same ZF 8 speed tranny as the Chryslers, so crack one and you crack them all.

The S63 is the M version with 555hp and 500ft/lbs. Should have the same computer.

I can't imagine this not selling. The cheapest other tune is $1200, and that requires sending in the computer. What kind of idiot would rather do that then use a Trinity for $600 less and no downtime?

Dinan is showing 96hp and 103ft/lb gains with their tune, upping the boost from 9.8psi to 14psi. They're also charging $3k though. http://www.dinancars.com/shop/D900-44TX ... spx#page=1

FWIW, my guess is if/when we add this kind of stuff to inTune/Trinity, it will be a new part number with a higher price.

BMW guys have issues with buying the same $389 tuner thats used in a lowly Mustang. It seems as long as you charge more for it, they'll accept it ;)

Dammit, BMW guys are stupid!

Glad I'm not one of them. Just a lowly domestic guy who has little choice in the matter.

Back to possibly looking for tuning for these. I can't stand the fucking Denali. Its gotta go. Shoulda bought the M to begin with. Now I'm not sure if I can afford to, thanks to GMs legendary depreciation.

I just found out the the ECU is an MSD85.1 if that means anything to you, for both motors. Obviously it means nothing to me, other then unless you guys crack it, that tuning is gonna cost me $1500 minimum, probably more for a decent tune.

Cobb?

They just released support for the 335 models, I think Johan is going to wind up buying one for his car...

They only support the various iterations of the 3.0L TT I6.

Looks like its gonna have to be Active Autowerke. Guys have a racket going. Charge $350 for the tuner, but theres no tune included. You want a tune to put on the tuner, its $1500 more. http://store.activeautowerke.com/x5-and ... -c344.aspx

I hope you guys will consider this in the not too distant future. Even if its a different tuner or a piggyback (I sold my Trinity, so I don't care), there needs to be something out there for the Twin Turbo BMW V8s that doesn't cost a fortune. Especially now that they can be had for under $60k for the M's and around $40k for the regular 50i, more modders are gonna be buying them, and we can't afford to be dropping thousands on a tune like the yuppies who bought them new.

Yeah, thats a racket for sure :)

You;d think the $350 handheld that has no tunes could read/clear codes, but no, they want to sell you a code reader too!

On models with automatic transmission like SMG, DCT a generic fault code maybe activated. A generic CODE reset tool is recommended to clear this initial fault.

What do you think of this way of making power Mike? http://www.burgertuning.com/N63_Jb_BMW_ ... Tuner.html

Small gains, they told me 30-40whp, but very low price. And real easy install.

The E90 forum seems to swear by their modules, so I was thinking I may give it a shot when I get a truck.

not my preference, but a viable option as long as it was developed properly.

Until Cobb released their tuner, those were the way of the 335i guys as well.

Wonder if I can stack it with a turbo boost module? http://www.vacmotorsports.com/catalog/v ... series.htm

Would be so much easier, and cheaper, if you guys would support it.

Think I'm gonna jump on the VAC module and downpipes when I decide which truck I wanna buy. Easy 145hp combined and since the module is a piggyback, if you guys ever decide to support the Bimmer, I can pull it off.

Okay, just put a Deposit on a 2012. Still waiting to hear back on a 13. Gonna do downpipes before the Boost module, so I'm still holding out hope that you guys will decide to support these.
