2015 Corvette - 93 and CAI Tune - Poor Dyno #'s and lean

Post by djyankees31 »

As Subject states:

Always with 93 octane, BMS Drop-In Performance Filter, and Cat-less X-Pipe.

I just did the Diablo tune 10 days ago. Yesterday, the local Corvette club had a Dyno days hosted by RoushYates Engines. C7 Stingrays with no mods or
tunes were pulling 403-405 hp and torque. With my mods and Diablo 93 and CAI tune I was expecting 430+ for both. However, the car did 412, 409, and 405. Even more worrying was the dyno chart. The Roush Yates engineer discussed that the tune was bad because the torque and HP was not smooth like all the other cars and the torgue looked seriously bad.

Since the dyno pulls were just for fun and not for getting a tune. They did not have the O2 wide band connected to the car.

So my concern, is the C7 running lean and will it blow the motor. Second how come the car didn't pull 430+ if non tuned C7's were doing 405?

Attached is a screen copy of the Dynojet pull and my tunes saved by i2030.
Also attached are several logs. 00 I did the day after the tune and the other today.

Let me know, if more data needs to be captured.

No logs were done on the dyno?

No, as it was a free event for the local Corvette club. It wasn't a tuning event but just for kicks for members to see how their cars do.

What about all the logs I've attached for WOT runs I did yesterday?

What is your opinion based on the dyno? The other non modded C7 performed as expected uty mine didn't with the mods and Diablo tune?

Thanks

these logs dont have much WOT activity that I am seeing.
Lots of driving around at part threottle, just need some quick WOT logs to get what we need here.
None of th elogs have excessive knock that would limit power, in fact there is minilam knock present anywhere.

Was the dyno loaded?
If you hadnt been on the dyno, would you think the car was running better than it did stock?

Thanks

Logs 05 and 07 are just short WOT pulls in 1 thru 3 gears.

I don't know about loaded dyno's or not. However, there were around 10 Corvettes from C5's, C6, and mostly C7's doing the dyno in session. Mine was the only Corvette with any issues on the dyno. The tuner stopped after my pulls and explained the results because they were different based on the ups/down of the HP and Torque lines. He also stated it should have performed much better than the stock C7's considering a tune for 93 octane with CAI and cat-less x-pipe. Completely stock C7's avg'd 405 while my pulls were 412/409/405 in that order with the same ups and downs..

It doesn't seem to be running better than stock when without the CAI and x-pipe. But once added the CAI and X-pipe without the tune it didn't run as well as stock. It's running better than without tune with mods but it's not quicker in the 0-60 and 0-100 times per the PDR.

I bet that BMS filter is your problem. With it's larger inlet area the MAF isn't reading correctly due to skewed air flow.

Thanks for responding. But I don't think so as I'm using the CAI tune and the BMS filter should be allowing similar airflow as the AFE CAI.

Not necessarily. Look at the big opening in the base as compared to the aFe. I'm afraid the tuning is going to be different for these two filters. Stick in a Green 7225 and I bet your problem will be solved. It's base is a tad larger than stock but not nearly as big as the BMS.

Yeah, the AFE tune is designed for the AFE MAF housing, it has nothing to do with the filter.
If you are not using the AFE CAI, you should be using the standard 91/93 tunes.
Good catch silver2011.

Silver2011,

Are you still using the BMS filter? If so, what vehicle?

Is the data logger showing less flow using the BMS filter, where as it should be allowing about 20% more air flow?

Thanks
