Am I going to be able to bring the car up to you, or does it have to go to Podunk, Alabama?

Neither should be required once we have everything dialed in and ready for release.

Development is being split between here and Opelika.

Yeah, but don't forget, you're working with an N63R, and the new ones are the N63B.

May not be the same tuning wise. Like when they went from the original N63 (08-13), to the N63TU (14-17), they went from a single ECU to a pair, and treat the computers as if they're each running a 2.2L I4.

First one one those I saw (X5M I think?) up there, I was like, whoah, what kind of dev tool is this, a cloned ECU?
They were like, no....it has 2. LOL.
I was a little bit floored by that.
Seems like complication for the sake of it, but...it works well.

I'm sure they'll be purchasing a vehicle with that engine/ecu combo for development as soon as its available.

Once you start getting into the M models you have 4 more variants of the motor. First came the S63 (10-13 X5M/X6M), then the S63TU had 2 versions (13-2017 M5/12-18 M6 and 15-19 X5M/X6M) and finally the current S63M in 2 states of tune (18-current M5, M6, M8, X5M, X6M).

S63 - 555hp, 500lb/ft
S63TU - 553hp, 502lb/ft (cars)
S63TU - 567hp, 553lb/ft (cars with Comp package and all trucks)
S63M - 600hp, 553lb/ft
S63M Competition - 617hp, 553lb/ft

I'm not even going to get into the Alpina versions. There are 5 versions, but you'll probably never see them, so no point in confusing you even more.

Does Steve still work with Dinan, or did he move on when he sold to Holley? His new company has a gnarly tune for the N63B. 698hp, 702 ft/lbs from the stock 523/553. You guys should just copy his tune.

Nope, hes out on his own.

I gotta say, the level of development that APR/Dinan puts into their cals is unreal.
Having legit flash tuning for BMW is going to be awesome.

These guys have full PCM control and access. Full logic maps in most places, the kind of info we'd kill for is standard fare for everything they work on.
The tune in Zachs M2 added launch control, changed gauge setups, and some other cool stuff i can't recall off the top of my head.
He's been through every flavor of inline offering for his M2 Comp and is far and away most pleased with the flash tune they provided him.

Yeah, but the problem is, they really charge for that work. Considering that nearly 90% of BMWs were leased last year, over a grand for a tune is very hard to justify, at least for me. Actual hardware that I could reset and resell (like a Trinity or inTune) would make it a helluva lot easier to justify. Thats why I've piggybacked all the Germans.

I should clarify, the current BMW project IS based around a handheld device.
I have not seen/heard pricing yet but I dont expect it to be outrageous.
Off the top of my head, its B58, S58 and S55 to start.

The JB4 is working pretty well on the 2.0T. Decent gains, probably at least 40-45hp. Enough to make torque steer a pretty big issue, especially on WOT downshifts. It likes to kick down, spin the right front tire and then when it hooks up the truck shoots towards the curb/shoulder.
We're having issues with it throwing codes on starts. They do auto clear within a couple of minutes, but its annoying. And the transmission is badly confused. It doesn't know whats going on. Burger was supposed to be trying to find a rental in California so they could work on it in the shop, but thus far I haven't heard if they did.

Thats where they all start. That gets them the M340, Supra, M3/M4 and X3M/X4M. And the B48 tuning is extremely similar to the B58, so that'll probably be next.

When they're ready for an N63B tester, you know where to find me. I'm always available for Sanford. Not so much Alabama.

Very nice.
I will pass along that you have a vehicle available. All of the current 550i flash development has been happening here for now.
