noob to tuning, needs pointed in right direction

Post by sgtduckyboy »

i have a U7192 for my 06 Tahoe. was able to make backup of stock and upload the performance tune and car runs great, seems much smoother.. awaiting a few tanks of gas to see MPG results, one of main reasons I bought it. with gas at sub $2/gal range, I have no problem using 91-93 octane and have been for about a month now.. and try to put in the non-ethanol when i am near a station that sells it.

what i'd like to know, is there anyone or anyplace that has a simple 'how to' on tuning yourself, simple adjustments for this or that and do's & more importantly 'donts' so that I brick my car or make an adjustment that is harmful or something to avoid for whatever negative reason, is the kind of information i am looking for.

i see many posts about how they changed shifting parameters, but not stating what they were or what are the options, for example. also, changing fan temp turn on,, why is this good adn when you shouldnt do it, for example.

i plan on possibly using different size tires since i can change that too.

what else could i do to improve MPG and costs? should i use the 87 octane tune and will i regret it going up hills because it will still downshift while in cruise to get up the hill? ( i hate that, a v8 should cruise up a hill at 65-75 without leaving OD or worse, dropping to 3rd gear)

thanks!

I'm in the same boat. You would think there would be a tutorial on these tuners, but there isn't. They expect us consumers to all be data nerds or something. They would sell a whole lot more units if they actually made it understandable. They use so many acronyms instead of descriptions, yet there is no acronym list.
You can log data, upload it to DS Data Viewer, and then export it as a .csv file, that can be used by a program called DSlogredux which you have to download from a totally different site. DSlogredux tells you what to log with the tool to dial in your cruising, and your wide open throttle fuel-air ratios. They call it ltft and pe. Makes sense, right? Not.

I've spent so much of my valuable time searching the internet, and working through this one baby step at a time, that I am downright disgusted. Everything is such a big secret. There is little to no service or support once you buy the tool. Then, all they want to do is sell you the latest tool, even though you can still buy these new.

By the time I figure it out, I will know enough to build my own tuner. Maybe I will write all this out in plain language, like Diablosport should have done. But that might increase sales and customer satisfaction, which is not my responsibility.

Sorry for the rant, bud. You really should have gotten a response to this thread. Someone should have pointed you to a good tutorial, but there is none.

You keep saying that, yet they are still being sold new.

They're still viable and useful. We consumers who just bought one need support, even if it is pointing us to an archive as you eventually did, in this case. Please stop insulting us for making a bad choice with our hard-earned money.

I've managed to get mine to do most of what it is capable of, but mainly by trial and error. I've given up on asking for, and searching for help.

Thanks
That post covers Long Term Fuel Trim for the purposes of adjusting Injector Slope. It also covers Power Enrichment for those who have Predators that report Air Fuel Ratio data.

That is far from a "thorough write up...explaining how to use the Predator to optimize performance."

The OP (Original Poster) and myself would like some insight and advice on how to take advantage of shift parameters, fan temp adjustments, COT changes for those of us who keep the cats, how to dial in the speedometer using tire size when the preset axle ratios are not what you are using, and all the known ways to improve fuel economy.

Finding useful information that allows us consumers to use your products to full effect is difficult, time consuming, and discouraging. Turn that around, and make it understandable to a person of slightly above-average intellect, and your stuff will fly off the shelves.
But I digress. You don't seem to comprehend what I am saying. Maybe you have been on that side of the fence for too long. You can't see it with the fresh, confused, frustrated attitude that I had when I first started using a tuner. There is still a lot that I am missing, but I'm tired of throwing wrenches across the shop. I will subsist on my limited knowledge from here on out.

I finally found what I was looking for! And it ORIGINATED AT DIABLOSPORT!!! Why is it like pulling teeth to get information that already exists?

http://www.corvetteforum.com/forums/c5- ... 1560706592

Others in that thread talk about how we (customers) are left to use the trial and error method. This guy sent an email and actually got a great reply.

Now I can finally finish tuning my truck with the Predator U7198 Until I read this, I did nott know how to correct my shift points to compensate for the lower gearing.

that software was created by a 3rd party and is long gone... no longer available...

the only way the old version would still be available is via a download somewhere within these forums, that's it... if it's not posted/hosted somewhere in these forums, then there's no way to get it..

this was the last working link for the old version of it.. https://forum.diablosport.com/download/ ... p?id=16554

as I had replied to your post a month ago, that download link works fine for me and others... so, if it still doesn't work for you, then it's something on your end with your computer that is blocking it..
