07 LBZ

Post by rustydusty1717 »

Just purchased and installed my first every predator in my 07 LBZ. Now I'm not sure if I installed it properly or not, cause I can't get it to smoke at all to save my life. I don't want it to smoke out the street when I hammer on it, however I would like to see a nice puff of smoke when I hammer on it from a dead stop. Maybe I didn't install it correctly, or maybe this is just a different version? I seen other diesels with the predator, and they would blow a nice cloud when you hammer it and until the turbo spooled. I would like that as well. Any insight would be great, thanks!

Sometimes it will and sometimes it won't. I have the same truck and it doesn't smoke all the time. I notice it smokes more when my fuel filter is getting on it's last life.

What tune are you running?

Currently on the 85 tune. Tried the 120 and it was fun, but I can see the tranny not liking it pretty fast. I try to drive reasonable for the most part, but I do like to go sometimes as well. The 85 tune seems good though. Tranny doesn't seem to have a problem with it yet either. Like I said, don't want to smoke a street or highway out, just want to make my presence known when I hammer on it from a dead stop. Only the 120 tune I can get the truck to smoke at all.

Maybe it needs to be updated? Just got the thing from a vendor. Not sure if it's up to date or not.

I have had mine running on the 120 tune for about 2 straight years now and have not had any issues. This includes apx. 10 runs down the 1/4 mile track at currently 70,000 miles. I can not recall my truck ever smoking on the 85 tune. I moved from upstate NY to San Antonio, TX towing a boat and having my 4 wheeler in the back apx. 11,000lbs and still ran the 120 tune. I highly suggest a EGT gauge.

How hard do you drive your truck though? I drive reasonable 75% of the time, the rest I've got the go-go pedal through the floor. So far the 85 tune doesn't mind the odd beating, but the 120 just seems like too much for that 25% of the time when I like to go-go. I've also got 175,000 km's on my truck. Just bought it about 6 months ago. Only thing that's done is cat and muffler delete. If I plan on running the 120 tune, I'll definently be getting gauges. I can't get mine to smoke on the 85 either. Seems to smoke alright on the 120 tune though. Hard to tell when you are going that fast though

Sounds like we pretty much drive the same. You just have to watch the 4 to 5 shifts and 5 to 4 shifts. This is the time when people limp their tranny. When I know these shifts are going to happens I will manually shift myself.

So I could use the 120 tune daily if I want, just watch those shifts? How deep would a guy have to go into the tranny to build it up to handle the 120 tune with no issues?

Just a shift kit or something? It's not that big of a tune, especially compared to ppe hot, edge race, etc. It shouldn't need much work, but just curious. I'd love to run the 120 tune regularily if it wouldn't require too much tranny work.

Call it what you will, but that 120 tune makes about 800 rwtq, and thats a serious amount of power for any trans to hold!

I didn't think it was THAT much torque. I was thinking 250-300 torque. No where does it state the torque that each tune makes, just the HP. I just don't get how it's that much at all. Other tuners make up to 250HP, so who knows the torque, and those guys just have shift kits.

Here is what I made on my last dyno run with that 120 tune.
PREDATOR SET ON THE 120HP TUNE / 458 RWHP - 754 FT/LBS

The only thing that I have done to my tranny was the trans-go Jr shift-kit. Try this web-site and you will get a lot more info about your truck and just not the tuner itself.

That's only another 100ftlbs of torque over stock though. How much does the trans go shift kit go for? I've seen it on a few trucks on dieselplace.com

Those numbers are to the wheels. I just ran the 1/4 last weekend and ran my best with a 14.49

I could get you that kit for roughly 100 through that web-site I linked you to.

Well that's not too bad. Wonder how much to get it installed though. I would love to run the 120 tune daily, except for towing. Just worried about burning the tranny up. Would rather spend some money on the tranny now and not have to worry about wrecking it.

You would limp the tranny before really burning anything up
