limp mode

Post by extra330 »

i have read a few other reports about people having problems with the allison going in to "limp mode" at red light burnouts. I too am having this problem. I would compare it to drving an older chevy v8 with a quadra jet 4barrel. you know, when you hammer down it sounds like its gonna quit, them bam, hang on for dear life. really makes for a not so impressive burn out. does anyone know of a cure?

the allisons are torque sensing. anytime TCM sees slippage it "defuels." thats why you guys are seeing the issues with limp mode or the defueling(real sluggish until slippage is gone) i had an 02 duramax before my 06, i had more crap done to that truck then should be done to a daily driver, after the first 100 hp, i added an ats tranny, about $5K but it withheld the 620rwhp we put to it, no slippage no defueling. i also had 3 chips and EFI live programming done. the best way to support what the predator will put out(120hp) and still do big smokys, is the sts copilot. it will increase clamping pressure about 200% and is good to roughly,550 flywheel hp before you have to add clutch packs and a convertor. just my two cents. good luck

Yeah guys, the Allison will put the truck into limp mode if it sees excessive slippage, so burnouts will likely be a problem.

Will the truck throw a code when it limps the tranny?

Yes, P0700 or P07XX relating to the TCM.
