2007 Charger SRT8 with 91 CAI tune...knocking

Post by vegassrt8 »

2007 SRT8..had aFe 2 CAI and Predator 91 CAI tune put in...car dynoed at 370rwhp and 370 rwtq after aFe and 91 CAI tune.

I have been hearing some knocking noises from engine at WOT esp. around 4K rpm's

The temps here are in the 90's (Vegas)..

Is this normal?? What are my options?

get a catch can as soon as possible and check and clean the intake manifold if necessary. That is probably cause of knocking for your car.

you can also try to reduce some spark timing and adding WOT fuel in small increments until the know goes away. The tune adjustments may only be a bandaid for the issue of oil ingestion from the PCV, which a catch can will stop.

Might be a good idea to log something first to see what's going on?

why would car knock if tune is set up for 91 octane gas...and yes, I've heard the "bad" gas stuff but isnt their a margin of safety in the 91 octane tune so that when you use 91 octane gas, there is not an issue with knocking?

I only heard the "knocking" with windows down...wonder if it could be something else?

What brand of gas are you using? Mobil or Union 76 seem to work best for me. The quality of your gas can make a huge difference in knk.

ummm..... why not log and find out?

Although it is a lot of fun to wonder and speculate, take votes and build the anticipation before actually looking at the data. It's like shaking and guessing before opening your Christmas presents.

download dsviewer 3.2 from site and it will tell you how to do it
to make a log just plug in predator to your obd2 slot, go to trouble shoot and click watch and play and slecet low knock retard, wot knock retard, spark cyl1, base spark, rpms and speed
hit watch and play again do a pass and come to a stop and unplug your predator from obd2 slot
then plug your predator to your usb port on computer and open dataviewer and it will automatic find log and save your log to logs and watch it on the data viewer
peace hope this helps
