Disable Hill Start Assistant (HSA) 06+ Dodge/Jeep

Post by powerbbs »

First let me say sorry to everyone for seeing these posts here, I asked the forum moderators to create a special area for posts of this nature/subject and they told me to do was post them here and they'll take care of the rest/repost them as stickies. So sorry to muttle up this post area with these off topic posts.

Second, the reason all these "tricks" work on 06+ Dodge and Jeep both is because both companies rely on Mopar Parts and in many cases the exact same equipment is used both vehicles - I'm not 100% positive but it may also work on 06+ Chevy, GM and Ford as well.

:!: Hill Start Assistant (HSA) - If I had to guess you would be asking... "What the hell is that?" Well here's a brief explanation. When the clutch is engaged (on a manual transmission) or the brake is pressed (on an automatic transmission), HSA automatically applies the brakes to avoid the possibility of any rearward, or forward, movement when the driver releases the hand/emergency brake. This means it is no longer necessary for the driver to carefully 'balance' the clutch/or break and accelerator pedals for a smooth uphill take-off to avoid rolling back once the handbrake is released.
Factory Setting: On

To disable this feature (to re-enable repeat these steps)
  • First, all of this must be completed in 90 seconds
  • Start with the engine off and vehicle in Park (automatic transmission) or Neutral with clutch out (manual transmission) with wheels straight. Apply the parking brake on a manual transmission vehicle
  • Start the vehicle
  • With the engine running, the brake applied and the clutch out, rotate the stearing wheel at least 180 degrees counter clockwise from center
  • Press "ESP OFF" button four (4) times within twenty (20) seconds. The "ESP/TCS Indicator Light" should appear and dis-appear four (4) times.
  • Rotate the steering wheel at least 360 degrees clockwise (180 degrees from center)
  • Cycle the ignition switch to OFF then ON (do not restart the engine)
If the sequence has completed properly, the "ESP/TCS Indicator Light" should blick several times to confirm that it's off.[/list]
