u7192 timing advance?

Post by bigdave »

I have the Perf tune installed on my 06 V-Max and have the timing advanced 6% from 2-4k and 6% from 4-6k, I also added 3% fuel at 4-6k. Does this sound like a good starting point for some fine tuning or do you have any other suggestions for me to try? It seems to pull a little harder but I don't want to run to to lean. I get NO pinging even at WOT with these settings. Would it be safe to leave it? Will the computer retard the timing to prevent knock even if I have the timing advanced too much? Reason I ask is I have advanced it as much as 13% for both RPM ranges and I never got any pinging at WOT. I am running 93 octane...thanks.

Sounds proper, as long as you monitor your knock you can go in and add timing until you see knock then back it down until you find a happy medium. You could also try to add a little more fuel if you see knock before removing timing and see if that helps.

What about the second question he had: "Will the computer retard the timing to prevent knock even if I have the timing advanced too much?"

Yes, but this is not something you should rely on. A motor getting KR will pull more timing than necessary which causes an extreme loss of power.
Any motor that has more timing and is knocking will make less power than a motor that has less timing but does not knock.

so you're saying I should advance the timing as much as needed until I get some KR then back it down a hair? Would the best way to do this be make some wot runs with the predator in real time data mode and monitor the knock retard from there?

Yes, use real time data! You should always base tuning changes on some input from the car, as in a wideband or live data from the PCM.
