Stock or custom tune required?

Post by Stig »

Hi there,

I have an '07 GT/CS for which I've just ordered a C&L Racer CAI and Predator CL7145 tuner.

However, I also have a bunch of other mods ready to fit to the car which include the following:

FRPP CMCV delete
FRPP Shorty Headers
Bassani X-pipe with hi-flow cats
SLP loudmouths

I live in the UK so thankfully our gas octane is pretty good (93 to 98).

However, I'm a bit concerned that the stock tunes may still be a bit lean with this setup due to the increased breathing ability of the engine. So my questions are twofold:

1) Are any of the 'stock' CL7145 tunes suitable for this sort of setup?

2) If the answer to 1) is 'no', then if I 'mate' the Predator with my car, can I then take it to a rolling road to fine tune the predator tune? If I do this, can I still revert back to the stock tune at anytime?

Any help/advice much appreciated.
Thanks :)

The mods you list will work great with the tunes in the Predator.

1.There are tunes in the Predator to support the C&L kit which is the only item you will NEED tuning for.
2.You can use the Predator to fine tune and can always revert back to the canned tunes as they were provided or the stock tune from Ford.

Thanks

Thanks Mike. Am I right in thinking that the fine tuning should only be done with the predator?

I don't want to have a situation whereby the rolling road downloads their own tune to the ECU, so that when I reconnect the predator it won't recognise that it's paired (as the tune gets overwritten but the 'custom' tune)?

OK, you lost me there....the only way to fine tune yourself is through the Predator, so I'm not sure what you mean. The Predator will always know your truck as long as it contains your original backup file.
