R/T HEMi QUESTiON!! PLEASE HELP!

Post by Jcj209 »

i have an 07 Dodge Charger R/T(GO MOPAR!)

but anyways i have a problem well i live in california and well i just replaced my stock stereo in march 09 because my aux input(i-pod port) wasn't working the stock stereo's aren't meant for that everday use believe it or not. but anyways and about a week ago i recently re-tinted my windows again because i got caught by da man!(PO-LICE) but yeah it took about a year for me to get caught but it was because i raced this stupid camaro ss i beat it too by the way and the cop picked me to pull me over and he gave me a fixed it ticket for my tint but yeah....anyways it just started getting cold over hear and i was listening to the radio the other day early in the morning and my rear windshield was all frozen so i push the rear defroster button and my radio went so staticy you could'nt hear a thing! and i turn it off immediately and it went back to crystal clear and i don't know what to do because i don't know if its when they installed the stereo back in march because i never had to use it back then it was really hot and now it starting to get cold so yeah but then i took it to the dealership and they said the tint is causing the problem because the tint has metallic mixtures of some sort but the tinting shop said that they don't use that kind of tint and the funny thing is when i bought my car dodge dealership reffered me to this tint shop they do really good work! so now im stuck anybody have this problem!?!?!?!?

Dealer is right. The antenna is in the rear window, so is the defroster. A metallic tint effectively shorts out the systems and connects them to each other if theres any sort of damage to the insulation. You can bet there is. Its nearly impossible to remove tint without damaging it, so I'd bet when they pulled your original tint, the insulation was damaged, and thats whats causing your problem. Only resolution at this point is to either replace the rear window, which will replace the defroster and antenna, or change the tint over to a ceramic substrate based product. Do NOT, under ANY circumstances, allow then to put a dye based tint on your car. It will turn purple and look like shit.

so you don't think they can remove this tint and install new defroster lines? and tint over it?

Nah, because they'll never figure out exactly where the short is, or if its in the defroster or the antenna or both.
