Keycounts Revisited......

Post by Dodgezilla »

So I put my Predator on a few weeks ago and like an idiot did not check which version I had. It turns out to be a Pre-Keycount fix version. I pulled it off for my towing trip to Florida and now I'm getting ready to re-install it. I plan on updating to the newest version before I do this and I'm wondering if it will show a proper number of keycounts the next time I pull it off?

Can one of you DS guys, or anyone that knows for sure, please explain how the Keycount issue was fixed and just what it actually does? Does it just save the number of counts already in the ECM or does it install an average number based on the current mileage at the time you are changing tunes or what?

I think I asked diablo about this and they that the predator will reprogram the truck with a random key count number that is not zero.

Thanks. Now my problem is that I cannot get my computer to connect to the Predator to install the update. I swear! It's always something.....

That's how I felt this weekend. The Predator powers up just fine and the DS Downloader file seemed to download just fine. But when I plugged the Predator into the computer it just does nothing. I tried it in both ports in front of my Dell computer and also in both rear ports but it just doesn't connect. I don't know what to do and I'm definitely not putting it back on the truck until this gets resolved. My cables are brand new and when I plug it into the computer I get a popup box saying something about "Hardware not Found". It's giving me the pop-up so it IS seeing that I am plugging something in there. Unfortunately I'm no computer expert so I'm stumped....

Yeah I had that happen in the past, sometimes to get around it I would start the program and when its searching for the tool unplug the power and plug it back in right away, see if that works Mike...

Yeah, I tried that several times. It just kept searching and searching. I even deleted the downloader and downloaded it again to see if maybe I had somehow gotten a corrupt download but it did not change things. I'll probably try again today and if nothing else I can box it up and pay Diablosport to do it for me...........

I don't have to do anything w/ the OBDII cable when I'm trying to do this, right?

No nothing to do with the OBDII cable when updating the tool, just USB and power supply, what about a reboot on the computer and make sure nothing else is running...so you tried uplugging the power what about the USB connection while its searching?

I did everything except reboot the computer. I will try that today. I wonder if I should do it here at work. My wife has so many programs that are always running anytime that computer is on and maybe that's causing the problems. That's what I'm gonna do. I'm going to DL the downloader program here at work and try it here tomorrow morning...

Thanks Man. Wish me luck.......

Well, I just DL'd the downloader here at work and I already see one difference which could be major. This time it told me to reboot the computer or it would not work. When I did this at home it definitely did not tell me that and I did NOT reboot. Kind of strange......

Just for S&G I just tried this at home again. No dice so I deleted it, again, and reloaded it. It still does not tell me I have to reboot in order for it to work right. I even downloaded the XP zip file to see if that would help any. NOPE!

So, do I need a driver for the USB cable that connects the Predator to my computer???

well, if you have a serial connection then you would not need any drivers. The USB connector would come with its own disk with drivers to work properly.
