HELP
06 PT Cruiser GT Auto Stick Appx 50k miles
U-7134 9R17 updated
Somethings got to give..... I have 93 tune installed... Pings like hell when punched(WOT) Runs fine just cruisen going through the gears or auto/stk.
Retarded timing on modify 1,2,now 3 degrees & added fuel 1,2,now 2.5%this was done in seq 3 times on 3000 on up RPM.....
STILL PINGS like 100 aluminum cans RATTLING
I was on freeway and went to pass slower car and my wife who knows pretty much zip on engines said WTH is that !!!!!! It seems to be more noticeable when already moving like 55-60 then punched..
The only mods to car are airbox & K & N.. This is not right......
Now the car did ping a little b-4 predator was installed when punched..
Maybe this is not the right tool for this car...It does say for a neon SRT
I am in southern calif. I am about to send this thing back if I can,t get this right.I basically bought it for a little more powerW/OUT Pingola City !!!!!

And exactly where does the catch can go ????

RE: HELP
ewww... do NOT use Shell gas... causes a lot of KR.... their gas is crap...
you want to use mobil, exxon, sunoco, amoco or bp if possible... or at least a station that gets their gas from one of them...

RE: HELP
OK no shell gas ... But still wondering about catch can & where it goes ...Does in go in the line that runs off the pcv valve and into the intake manifold? I guess what gizmodos thinking is too much oil being thrown into intake causing the pinging under WOT....
Also if I am retarding 3* at 3 to 7000 RPMS iisint this taking power away @ higher RPMS ???????

RE: HELP
Yes the catch can would go between the PCV valve and the throttle body/intake manifold. I know on the SRT4 if you don't run a catch can you will have oil pooling in the cold side pipe. Also, have you ever run any SeaFoam through the engine?

Yep I have run 1/3 can of seafoam through brake booster hose.
Ok I have put on catch can ...ran log on 93 tune straight up (no modifications on timing or fuel)
Log on LT KNK ran as high as 6...
" ST high as 3.5...
From what I have read that is NO GOOD !!!!!!! and I can hear the rattling at WOT
Also what is considerd wot on log 4 ?????

i ithink i read to reset the PCM to erase LTkr. Then retest/relog to see where your ST & LTkr is.
RE: Re: RE: HELP
LT Knock is something the PCM saw consisstently so it always pulls timing in that area, even if there isn't knock present. As KB suggested, pull your negative battery cable for a few minutes to reset the PCM. It also may take a while for the engine to "clean itself" after the catch can install. Plus you say you are running 91 fuel. You will likely have to pull a little timing for that. Do you have a wideband?

If it knocked an little before(stock 13-14psi), its going to knock ALOT with the 93tune(16-19psi). Its just a fact that if you've had a little knock to start with and add 3-4psi MORE boost its going to Knock more. This does not mean the tune "bad" or not right for your car. Some cars just need a little more "attention".
1) I haven't seen a A/F reading. Do you have a wideband A/F gauge? You might be too lean and need to add 5%-10% fuel. A true and accurate A/F measurment is very important. without one you don't just don't know
2) Are you using the most up to date crom. Don and I have a new 93tune that just came out last week 9r18. This tune has some Knock tweeks amoung other things.
3) Post a datalog and use these PID's

RE: Re: HELP
No Wideband.... I am just trying to get rid a little of knock..So back to PCM Reset .Do I remove 93 tune & go back to stock or leave 93 tune in B-4 pulling neg cable ????
Re: RE: Re: HELP
The only quick way to remove LT knock is to remove the battery cable.ptgtrialto wrote:No Wideband.... I am just trying to get rid a little of knock..So back to PCM Reset .Do I remove 93 tune & go back to stock or leave 93 tune in B-4 pulling neg cable ????
I'd leave the timing alone and concentrate on adding fuel at least down to, but not richer than, the stock levels.
If you log the PIDs I suggested, you will see one called OpenLoop FA. This shows the A/F the PCM is trying to reach. Since you don't have a A/F gauge you can use this as a general guide. For most stock PCMs it sits around 10.1-10.5 during WOT. The 93tune is a bit leaner at about 11.7.
It would be my suggestion that you add fuel until the knock drops below 2.0Kr with the old 93tue or below 1.0Kr with the New 93tune or you reach an OpenLoop FA of 10.0, then stop adding fuel. btw I strongly suggest you use the new updated 93 tune.
If you post a datalog I can walk you through it. Its pretty easy.
Here is another thread on tuning out Knock you might find helpfull.
