Predator Owners Manual is incomplete

Hi Everyone:
I recieved my new Predator U7192 today from Autoanything. I read the owners manual and discovered it is not complete. There was a reference to read the chapter about modifying tune parameters before attempting to make changes to the pre-installed tunes. I went to the back of the book and found no such chapter. Instead, I found a note to get the rest of the owners manual on this site. I navigated to the documentation download page and discovered this particular model does not have an owners manual file. I need the chapter for changing the parameters of the tunes as I must be able to change the differential gear ratios of the tunes when I get them changed from 3.42 to 4.10 this coming Monday. Any help with this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the quick reply and the links. I am curious why there is no specific owners manual for the U7192. I hope it is not an orphan soon to be discontinued. I chose the U7193 file for reference. Thanks, again!

cuz the tool functions exactly the same as the other model, so they save on printing costs... same manual works for multiple predators... heh...

yeah, it is simplicity thing. They used to make unique manuals for every predator family but in the end, those customer still complained that they were not good enough. So they ditched the unique manuals, made a universal one, and then made these more helpful support forums.

The problem with the special manuals is that there are so many functions and unique things for each predator family, that you would need a 100 page manual to explain 90% of its abilities properly and even then it would still be confusing and not in plain english to the average user. So it is better this. Dont understand things, go to the forum, and we can have an educated conversation about it.

Come'on guys to say that the predator manual is incomplete is the understatement of the decade. I have been reading for a couple of weeks to find all the information i can (alot of the info is on the web site but its scattered all over the place and some of the really good stuff can only be found in old threads on the forums which are a bit*h to search thru) about how to read the data logging data and whats good and bad. I'm also having to search to find what settings in the "modify canned tune" section resolve what issues. Granted I was a complete newb but alot of people who buy a predator are. We dont know what LT Knock (long term) and ST Knock are. I didnt know what TPS was or how much LT KNK was too much. Partial throttle shift points are not explained, I could go on and on. If Diablo Sport would take the time to write an all inclusive PDF that includes CROM updates, CALID updates, DS Downloader Useage, Data Logging useage with Data Viewer, and a very basic guide to custom tuning with the predator using data gathered using data viewer I guarantee it would be the most downloaded file on the entire website in less than a month. The file needs to be located on the main download page in bold print. I estimate that to write a very nice guide that includes screen captures would take a knowledgeable employee 8-12 hours and would improve newbie customer satisfaction by a factor of 10

Like I said, a 100 page user manual would not be user friendly and most people would not even read it. Heck, I still get call from customers when the Predator doesnt power up in their car. Ummh, what does the sticker on the screen of the Predator say?...

I agree that the Predator has many specialized functions for each particular pcm family and that these advanced features cannot be easily utilized without a learning curve. I also agree that it is kind of tough sometimes to find the information you need by combing through old threads.

But, really the best thing that can be done is to FIRST read the stickies at the top of the forum, and THEN post your questions. It is okay to be a newb and have advanced user basic questions like what is LT Knock and wondering what LTFT's are.

I think the forum environment is better than a manual printed with this jargon like 300 level college text book because we can actually have an educated conversation and you may get various viewpoints and insight rather than just one printed.

Another reason is that some people should not be datalogging and tweaking period without a custom tuner. It is possible to damage an engine that has certain parts installed while following a universal guide book about tuning for beginners with the predator. The author of the book is not going to know what is installed on a future customers car.
