What is the reccommended tune for 89 octane?

Post by camilomachado »

Hello everyone,

Tried searching for a specific answer to this, but couldn't quite find one. I just received my Predator for an F-150 5.4L. Here in the Northeast, our midrange gas is 89 octane instead of 91. What is the recommended performance tune for this? If I select 91 Octane from the Predator what parameters should I modify to compenstate since I am rated at 89. Or, should I just be using the 87 tune?

Thanks in advance.

If you do not plan on using premium fuel, I would suggest using the 87 octane tune.
For maximum performance the 93 octane tune willprovide the best results.

If using the 87 tune, is there any benefit in continuing to pump 89 octane? Or should I just pump 87? My understanding is that you don't really notice an improvement until you start with the 91 octane rating.

I guess I'm just looking for a middle ground where I can enjoy some performance improvement and fuel efficiency improvement without spending an extra 50-60 cents a gallon from premium, 93 octane fuel.

But then again, I made my bed the second I took the keys to this truck....so I'm not gonna cry over it either.

Yeah, I would say go ahead and use a quality brand 87 octane, as there will be no benefit to running 89.
