Predator stolen - buying replacement

Post by sjgee »

Hi,
My Predator was stolen recently.
I have the 93 CAI tune installed with a few mods.

So, I am going to buy a new U7135.

I have my original back-up on my PC, and it does contain my VIN in it.

So before I buy, I just want to check that I WILL be able to put the Original Tune from my PC onto the Predator, then install the Original Tune back into my car, and then change to one of the CAI tunes?

Does this makes sense.

Thanks in advance.

It makes sense, but I don't think you're going to be able to do that. DON'T PANIC.

The thing is that your car has the 93 CAI tune installed and is married to your stolen predator. I think the new predator is going to want to get the original backup from your car before it lets you do anything with it (except logging). When you plug it into your car it's going to tell you that you already have a non-stock tune in the car and refuse to do anything. Something like that.

DS support will be able to solve the problem with you and your new predator over the phone. I'm guessing they're going to want a copy of the police report or something indicating the old one was stolen. Maybe not. Usually it's the car that's stolen or wrecked or burned up and they want to use their predator (which is still married to the old car) on the replacement. I think Mikel will probably give you instructions.

In any event, you WILL be able to get it to work.

Question: is that tune in the vehicle something you tweaked from the base 93 CAI Diablo tune? If so, you could get the car reflashed at the dealership (back to stock, basically), and then start over with the new predator, no?

If the tune is a custom one, then Quick's suggestion is definitely the way to go.

Yep, flashing to stock would definitely solve the problem (sounded like a 93 CAI tune with maybe parameters modified with the handheld) but, #1 the dealer will probably charge for it ($75 gets mentioned a lot), #2 lots of people would rather their dealer not know they're tuning their car. DS support can solve the problem for free and you don't have to leave the house :)

I can force the tool to do a calibration update, thus flashing it back to stock, give us a call and we'll help you out.

Have the tool powered up in the car please....

You should give DS your serial number off your old stolen one if you still have it, so when the thiefs try to run a force on it, DS will be on to the serial number as stolen.

Hi All,
Thanks for all the replies, much appreciated.
Yes the tune in my motor is the standard 93 CAI tune with a few mods via the tool.
I'm in England and the dealers over here aren't up to much, so I've got no confidence in taking it in for reflash.
I'd far rather go down the DS route.
My Predator was stolen when in France, so you can imagine the fun I had reporting that to the Police! :) I did manage to get a crime number and report though!
That's a good idea Cleary, I do have my serial number of the stolen unit, by DS should have it too, as I did register it.

Anyway, I feel a lot happier now, and will be ordering a new Predator shortly, and a catch-can for good measure! :)

Thanks again everyone.

My replacement Predator is in the UK, and should be delivered tomorrow! WooHoo!!!

So, question for Mikel?

Do I need the original backup, or should I just plug it in and call you?

Getting excited!

Cheers

Before I and waste both our times, do I need to plug the Predator into my PC and do a CALID or CROM update?
Or I am good to go?

Hope to speak soon

Cheers

Hi,
It's all up-to-date and ready to go.
Is there a good time to call, as I've just spent 20 mins on-hold, which aint cheap from the UK :)
Thanks
