Trans mode 1 /2

Post by Kahler »

With my canned 91 oct cai DS tune, in modify under transmision then auto stick setting, it has mode 1 mode 2 I have tryed both and it seems nothing is diffrent in my shifts. Or pattern. Had car on the drums today and went both ways, and nothing I can notice ? What are they supposed to do ? What functions ?
It did get 338hp and 367.8ftpd tq @ 5600rpm using dynojet.

Another question I want to change the shift points and when I look into the increased shift point menu it says, drive it has 600- 0 +600 and a pointer. Thats in drive setting and it has this setting for nurtrail also ?
What about 1st / 2nd / 3rd / and so on, adjustments in autostick manual rpm shift settings ? Or does the drive setting also mean all gear changes ?
DS needs a little more information or mabe I just missed it.

It wont change the shifts or the patters, it is for disabling the auto upshift function when in auto stick.

It depends on your car. On our Chargers we see three "modes". The only way to know which mode removes the auto-upshift is to try each one and see. Can be done through the Quick Adjust menu.

thanks cruisin, I tryed both already and could tell no diffrence in the two I got. Auto upshifs I want to get rid of, and both modes let it up shift ? I will try both again this sat. and do some logging. You would think ds would know which mode does what. And could inform us in a users manual. ?
Or is mine not working properly at all and / or needs tweeked by ds ?

08 charger R/T- autostick modes ?

Post by par68freak »

I'm running the 91 oct CAI tune(u7135 w/current update) TCM reset and shift firmness increase and I too want to know what in the heck "Autostick mode 1,2,& 3"do. My wife also drives the car and I dont want her to have any "surprises",so I left it alone.Thanks,D.

Here's the deal on the "modes"...
It effects the upshift behavior in stick mode only.
Stock, the car will upshift, even if it's in stick mode, when it hits the red line (or close to it).
Didn't use to be that way. Around the end of 2006 they changed it. Before that, if the car is in stick mode, it will hold the gear and run all the way up until it bounces off the rev limiter (repeatedly if you stay in it). There was a TSB about that time that involved flashing both the PCM and TCM. Some people had it done and some didn't. Very late 2006 and later cars came that way from the factory.
That was the TSB that fixed hitting the rev limiter on the 1-2 shift (WOT) on the SRT8s. They had used the same algorithm from the 5.7L to predict when to initiate the upshift at WOT. The 6.1Ls wind up faster and were hitting the rev limiter before the shift completed. Some did it, some didn't. Most did. When they fixed that they also decided to change the stick mode behavior.

The PCM "initializes" or "configures" the TCM by calling some TCM interface over the bus with a message(s). It can configure the TCM by passing parameters for whatever. "Shift firmness" is one of those things. The stock SRT8 programming will set it for firm shifts where the stock 5.7 programming sets it for softer shifts. One or some of those parameters will specify the auto-upshift behavior. This way the PCM can set the TCM into a mode where auto-upshift will have the old behavior or the new behavior. Note: you cannot program an old TCM with the new behavior but you can program a new TCM with the old behavior. Makes sense right? because they added the new behavior to the TCM programming.

The PCM sends some string to the TCM to do all those things. The Predator does not program the TCM but it can change those strings (of parameter values) in the PCM that get sent to the TCM. Now you know how that works.

Why the different modes? Well, cars came from the factory with different versions of the TCM flash in the TCM. It's independent of the year, PCM calid, etc. So given a particular car you can't tell what version of the TCM it came with. Why does that matter? It seems that this parameter string or strings or messages are different across the different TCM versions. You can accomplish the same thing but the TCM's application interface to do it is different. I guess if you send it the wrong thing or the wrong way it just ignores it.

What DS did was have all 2 or 3 formats available. One in each "mode". So if you want to disable auto-upshift then you try mode 1. If that doesn't do anything then you try mode 2, etc. The modes that are wrong for your TCM won't do anything at all. The mode that is right for your TCM will change the auto-upshift behavior.

That's about it. (technical details were glossed over for brevity and ease of explanation... and I don't know what they are but that's the jist of it).

Quick ,,, thank you, You explained it very well and I now understand. I will go back and try both again. And I will really pay attention to what I have happening. I do want it to stay in the gear, I hold it in until I decide to move the lever. I want its tongue hanging out, and not shifting on its own !
Again thanks for the info.

Auto Upshift changed something.

Post by md20twenty »

2005 Chrysler 300c 5.7L
Perf 93. oct, no CAI

I installed the mode 1 setting for Auto-Up shift. I notice a drastic difference in the way my car is shifting. While in drive, the car will not shift into the next gear unless the revs are around 4.5-5k. So if I'm cruising at 60, it feels like I'm stuck in 2nd gear at around 4k. Also my auto stick doesn't seem to have any effect, unless I'm down shifting from 2 into 1. going into 3, doing about 70 makes no difference. I'm guessing that mode 1 is not an ideal setting for me, but I wanted to throw this out there and see if anybody knows anything.

I have an 2005 and have the same problem. Any help? Mode 1 causes the same problems as above. Mode 2 does nothing at all. What do I have to do to make my auto upshift manual? I have all the lastest updates do to my Diablo. Do I need to do something to the car?
