HOLLY SMOKE!!!
I just bumped up my predator on the 120HP tune for the first time and all i can say it WOW!!! SMOKE, SMOKE, SMOKE!!!
Obviously i am still letting the transmission relearn so i have not got on it what so ever and it is putting out some serious smoke! I have not even given the truck a solid 1/4 throttle and it will lay out a cloud of black smoke.
I am so use to either having the 65HP or the 85HP setting and both of them do not smoke at all. Maybe a little grey haze at WOT but thats it.
I cant wait to see how the 120HP tune performs once i get the tranny adjusted to the power.

How many miles on your truck. Cause I have around 47,000 and I run that 120 tune all the time and I don't get a lot of black smoke at all.

Smoke is so inconsistent...our 06 LLY smokes a decent amount with the 120, and just a haze with the 85...

yeah well after the tranny got settled down and took some time to relearn the new power it stopped smoking completely.

That's good you really don't want all the black smoke anyways. Black smoke is unburned fuel.

RE: HOLLY SMOKE!!!
I think that the 85hp tune is the best for fuel mileage for me. I have not gone through a whole tank of fuel yet so I'm not sure

RE: HOLLY SMOKE!!!
On a long distance run I would suggest using the 120 tune. I drove from NY to CA using both the 85 and 120 tune and it was about a 1 mpg difference the 120 tune being better.

About how long does it take for the tranny to relearn?
My biggest issue with using the Predator on my 2005 LLY is the amount of smoke that it throws out my MBRP exhaust system even at slow take offs.
I don't mind the truck shooting its power signal of smoke when the race is on, but when I'm just driving the truck (currently at the 65 setting) I don't want to be killing the lady in the convertible behind me.
I thought maybe I have some dirty injectors so I am trying to put some Diesel Kleen through it in hopes in will clean it up some.
After reading these posts, I am leaning more towards the trans needing to relearn. Does it do this automatically or someone said drive up to 40mph and shift to 1st and let your trans bring you down to almost a dead stop.
Direction would be great... thanks

I would say drive it around in town nice and easy where it's gonna shit more then the highway for about a week. After this week you will be good with the tranny relearning. At first I would just run through all the tunes till you find the tune you like best then leave it on that tune till you have to tow something.

I am not going to suggest that you do, but I just drove from the middle of Missouri to San Antonio, Texas using the 120 tune. The truck empty weighed in at 6,940lbs. After being loaded with a boat, 4 wheeler and other small stuff it weighed in at 10,800lbs. So it can be done you just have to be cautious of your EGT's and trying not to do alot of hard down shifting.

Thanks for the input rydnhi4x4
So do you leave it in Tow Haul mode which I believe would cause that hard shifting in the city (as I believe it is designed to do so it will utilize the engine and trans to slow you down versus your brakes).
What is the worst that can happen if I leave my Diablo at 65 and utilize the Tow Haul button? Burn up my Allison Trans? How will I know? Is the answer in the color and smell of the trans fluid (burnt smell, dark, almost black in color)?

When towing you can just leave it in Tow Haul Mode. Anytime your towing you should use the Tow Haul Mode. All it really does is changes the shifts to certain rpm ranges I believe. The worst you can do is "limp" the tranny. When you limp the tranny you won't necessarily smell burnt oil or have dark fluid. Pretty much your tranny limps or goes lame.
