I would have to agree, i think it's time for a change the problem has been acknowledged but nothing seems to ever get done about it. Too bad, i like the programmer but what's the point on having something you can't use 4-6 months out of the year! This has been one of most frustrating purchases i have ever made, right from the programmer not doing what it was advertised to do (shift on the fly etc...) and now this. Come on Guys get it together!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OK...can I get a log?
Please?

PRETTY PLEASE????

We have been all but begging for some logs of one of these trucks starting up with the high idle, so we can at least take a stab at figuring this out.

Not for nothing, but there has been a LOT of complaining about this, and I have seen lots of people say 'sure, I can get you some logs, it does it all the time', etc, yet I have not yet seen a single log posted here.

The high idle lope is a issue with these trucks regardless of programmer from what I have seen. I just bought my 06 a month ago. It does the high idle lope and has no chip or tune downloaded on it. The previous owner had a Smarty Jr on it. So bash all you want on the predator but Smarty JR does the same thing appearently. Send the guys some data if you really have a problem with it instead of just bi%tching about it. Go to the cummins forum and do a search on the high idle lope. Tons of people with the issue and not many have the predator. I really dont like the lope myself but its back on stock settings after a Smarty and its doing it. I just got a predator in the mail today. I will be putting it on as soon as I get my truck flashed by the dealer incase the smarty messed up putting the truck back to stock.

There is also a lot o talk on the forums of an electrical issue that is causing high idle issues on the 5.9L cummins trucks. It only does it in the winter as well.

Mike, i am going to stop by NADP here in Edmonton AB, Canada and see if they will update my programmer for me and i'll get you some Data. The problem goes away when the programmer is removed so i know it's not the electrical issue like some of the other forums have found. NADP has been kind enough to update my programmer in the past so hopefully i can get some Data to you shortly.

Just for the record, starting in 2006 i believe the Dodge Rams have a factory feature on the Diesels that when the trucks come up on high idle buy themselves (not with the cruise) there is a random cylinder cutout that creates an idle surge even at stock settings. The programmer seems to amplify the surge, perhaps with the higher fuel pressure? The feature was designed to help bring the trucks up to temperature faster and maintain the heat, or so i have been told by a few dealerships. This is why the problem goes away when you bump the rpm up with the cruise, the feature is only enabled when the truck comes up on high idle by itself.

well if that is the case it does it on my 05 as well. And I am pretty sure the computers on the 05 and 06 are totally different, we need a different programmer anyway.

I have seen 3 guys switch to the smarty CATCHER , NOT THE SMARTY JR. and they do not lope or miss at high idol or anytime.

I just finally took the time to put in the 9r05 upgrade in my pred. Of course the weather turned warm now so have not had a chance to see how it work. I do know that when I leave it stock there is no loping at all when it goes into high idle by itself, and it sure does when it was on perf tune as that is where I have it most. Will put a tune back on and see If I can figure out how to do some logging if this tool supports it

Mike, i have been trying to log some date but unfortuneatly getting nowhere. I updated to the latest revision to my programmer and when i connect to my laptop in the truck this is what happens:
- connects no problem, show vehicle vin etc...
- goes to Aquiring available parameters...
- after 10 minutes or so it says that there was a failure with communication and gives an error
- I tried several times and still no luck, checked the baud rate to make sure they were same (115200)

Any ideas? I hope someone else will be able to log some data so we can get this fixed.

i believe all the 3rd gens have that feature, when its a certain temp out side the high idle automaticlay comes on and when its really cold the ecm shuts off the fuel to 3 cylinders to produce heat faster,i have an 04 and mine has done it at -25,it sounded like crap and freked me out but doesnt realy sound like a loping idle, hope u guys get it figured out
