98 Cobra made slow by Predator tune

Post by SVTRainRider »

I loaded the tune on my Cobra and it didn't seem to add any power and I read that light mods are acceptable but I wanted to know for sure if my mods need a slight pick me up. I have 3.73's, a k&n CAI and a 2 1/2" exhaust with an off-road x-pipe and magnaflow exhaust (which sounds incredible for people who are thinking about getting rid of the cats). But everything else is stock from the MAF the tires. Just wanted to know what you guys would suggest. And I have unistalled and reinstalled the tune for comparison and there is a difference.

Wow. Not what I was expecting to hear.
We get great feedbackonthe new revisions.

I would have to guess you have some not so great fuel.
Try either:

different brand of fuel
add a little fuel at WOT in the tune
or reduce WOT spark a bit to see if it feels any better.

It may be bad gas I get 93 octane at the Texaco near me Ill try Sunoco next I hear good things about their fuel. I adanced the timing by .5 in the 2000-4000 RPM range with the tool and added a little more fuel to the tune and it definitley woke up. Im turning tires like i never have before and the rate of acceleration is tremendous. The only thing im wondering is should I retard the timing in the 4000-7000 RPM range?

My next question is about my Bassani O/R X-pipe. I put MIL eliminators on the rear O2s to compensate for the voltage difference. I read in a lot of other forums that people were having problems with MIL coming on because the the MIL eliminators dont work. I put mine in and they have worked perfect (runs a little rich but no MIL) and am wondering if the computer can still compensate for the voltage input its receiveing is there any reason to delete them in a special tune?

And if anybody wants to give another set of MIL elimantors a try I used the BBK P/N (BBK-1675), come two in a pack and work for Mustang Cobra and GT years 98-04.

Also is there a special tune I need for a K&N cold air intake? The kit actually uses the stock intake tube and only comes with a new filter and a heat shield which i think says a lot for ford's stock intake on that car.

i have a question about your o/r x-pipes... you said it sounds awesome, but i put on o/r x-pipes and i had 40 series flows on it b4 adding them, and i get a real raspy sound, certain rpms sound great but getting on it harder produces the raspiness. do you not get any of that? cuz i checked youtube for these set-ups and never heard any of that, and i was wondering if there's anything i could do to fix it, you know short of spending a couple hundred bucks on new mufflers or high flow cats? i just want to unlock the true sound of the mustang.

Shouldn't require any additional adjustments for that intake.

Aturley I had the same problem with my flowmasters and the only and I think the reason is because in the flowmasters chambers the baffles are bent steel plates and don't have the necessary area to baffle the high pitch raspiness of the 4.6. Unfortunately I don't believe there is a way to fix that problem with the setup unless you want to spend some cash. I put on magnaflows and I got rid of the raspiness when I have the o/r x-pipe on.

yeah... i was reading alot that flows and o/r x pipes don't go together... but i just spent $100 and got straight pipes and new tips put on it literally an hour ago. no more raspiness and my god does it sound absolutely beautiful now. i'm just glad i got the result i wanted without spending unnecessary money. nonetheless... sound unleashed.

Awesome I put straights on my Cobra for a while until I was "confronted by the neighbors" that it was too loud. So I switched to the bassani x pipe with my magnaflows and now it's all deep tones that I hear and it gave it a classic muscle sound. I love putting Honda civics in there place it never fails to make my day.

Yea it gor to be the whole neighborhood at one point and my boss actually lives across the streetand he has two little boys and I would always wake them up when I drove in sooo needless to say I needed to do something. Made me sad taking my straights off I miss the look of disgruntled burners when they hear my car is louder than their hyped up 2.0. Ahhh.... good times good times
