question about u7146

Post by 02pnygt »

I recently purchased a 2003 mustang gt that has 3.73 gears in it. The computer supposedly has not been recalibrated for the gears, i do the speedo is off. I found a used diablosport predator tuner(pn u7146) that i purchased for use on this car. I just tried to make the adjustment and download the tune on the car, but i got an error message stating that the unit is not "licensed for use on this vehicle". to the best of my knowledge the car is supposed to have a stock tune on it and the person that i purchased the tuner from assures me that he put the stock tune back in his car so the tuner should be "unlocked" for use. Would this message indicate one issue or the other?

Thanks
kerry

that message means that the predator is still locked to the previous car...

did he just install the stock tune like a regular tune, or did he actually do the "restore original backup" process?? he has to do it via the "restore original backup" - that's the only way the predator will become unlocked...

what revision is the predator on? when you boot it up and it's at the main menu, there's a number at the top of the screen - that's the revision number...

wow, that's an old revision too...

well, you'll have to contact diablo tech support on monday morning... it may be able to be reset/unlocked over the phone, but with that old revision you may need to send it to them...

and, it will cost you $129 to get it unlocked, since you are not the original purchaser and there is no warranty...

not sure... you can try it if ya want...

some tool models on older revisions still do not unlock even after doing the "restore original backup"...

I would contact him first and ask him if he did a "restore original backup", or if he just installed the factory tune like a regular tune...

go through the menus on there, and see what the last tune written was...

should be under options, or options > troubleshooting and look for Show Last Tune Written... see what that says...

he said he can't remember that it's been a while. i'm thinking he just put stock tune back. I'm going to see first if he'll just refund it since he told me it was unlocked when purchased. If not might see if he is atleast willing to split cost of sending it and unlocking it. Thanks alot for your help.

Last tune written says "factory HP tune". Now before i tried downloading a tune i was in the tuner and doing one to adjust for gears. Then when i tried to download had the problem. So I don't know if the last tune written would be showing the adjustment i was trying tomake.

The Factory HP tune is NOT the original backup. The Predator is still married to the previous vehicle it was used on. He needed to restore the "Original Backup", which will the unmarry the Predator and allow it to be used on a new (different) vehicle.

a-HA!! like foursix said... that is NOT the same as restoring the original backup..

that guy just installed a copy of the original tune... he did NOT "restore original backup" like he needs and is supposed to do...

send it back to the guy and have him do a "restore original backup" to his car... that option should be located under OPTIONS > TROUBLESHOOTING > RESTORE ORIGINAL BACKUP

OK, thanks guys. I think this guy is starting to play games with me. This was supposed to have been used on his car. Supposedly the tuner he works with did not use diablo software so he was changing from the tuner to an sct chip. Now during our messaging back and forth he says something about being the middleman between what i'm telling him and whoever else. Unless he means the tuner, but i would think they would know better. Anyway, I only paid $125 for this thing. So i asked him to just let me send it back for a refund, but he doesn't seem to want to do that. At the sametime he says to find out how much to send it back and get it unlocked and he'll pay for it. Told him that is fine, but that will cost more than just returning my money in the first place. doesn't seem right to me.

That does sound a fishy, but perhaps he rather just send you some money rather than dealing with shipping and the time to get it back, plus he may just not want it.

Either way, IF he does pay for it, make sure it's a legitimate transaction, because that is the point you will really get ripped off if that's what he's out to do.

$125 is a good deal as long as it gets worked out so you can use it. I paid $175 for mine about 2-3 years ago and it's been worth every penny. I gained a dyno-verified 6.9rwhp and 13lbft by tweaking the "canned" tune, and probably could have gotten a little more. Plus I was able to correct for my gear ratio change, pull any trouble codes that came up, and clear my CEL due to my exhaust setup.
