2000 Mustang GT - Traction Control is still on w/Firm Shift

Post by autobot04 »

I'm using the U7146 with rev 9r07b on a 2000 Mustang GT Conv. I installed the 93 Octane Tune and then went back in and adjusted the shift firmness from 1 to 2 and 2 to 3 to the maximum firmness setting. If I'm at a dead stop and then give it WOT, my Traction Control engages. I was under the impression from reading other posts that choosing the maximum firmness turns the TC off. Let me know if I need to make any other adjustments. The car runs really well otherwise.
Thanks

Is the TC turned off when you are trying this?

Also a heads up, be careful with setting the shifts all the way to firm. It adds wear and tear to the trans. much quicker than other proven and reliable methods such as the "j-mod". Doing it with the tuner just raises the line pressure and stresses internal parts. It's fun to do so, but it's not in the best interest of reliability.

And just to clarify, it's not just a Diablosport thing. This is the case with any flash tuner that allows you to increase shift firmness electronically. The key to doing it right is doing it mechanically.

FourSix, the TC Button is left on. I thought the Tuner would disengage the TC all together without having to press the button everytime. I guess I still have to turn it off manually.

You may have been confused...when selecting the 'firm shift tune on an 05+ Mustang, TC will be off automatically'...yours is an older model and TC can be left on or off...

Thanks.. I wasn't sure if I had made a mistake during the install. I gotta tell you, I have added a ton of bolt ons that did nothing to the car. The Tuner really woke up my Mustang GT. It was the best money I have spent on the car so far and I just used a stock tune. My car has 90k on it and I'm afraid the motor will blow on a dyno so the 93 Octane Tune is as far as I can go...

Glad you got it worked out.

As far as the engine blowing up... I bought my GT with 92k on the odometer. I was worried about it blowing too after I got it, so I drove it like a little girl. Once I had opened it up a few times, I couldn't resist hammering on it every once and a while, and when I started modding, of course there was the good old "butt dyno" test to see if I could feel a difference.

Long story short, between 92k and 143k where it sits now, I have broken zero parts on the entire car, made probably 15-20 passes at the drag strip, about 2/3 on drag radials, I have autocrossed the car in 3 or 4 events, and I have beat the piss out of it around an oval track on 3-4 separate occasions for 2-3 laps straight at a time.

And best of all, I JUST sprayed the car with nitrous for the first time a few weeks ago at 142,000 miles. I'd still drive it anywhere, and it only uses a quart or so of oil every 3k. The 4.6 is a very durable engine as long as you change the oil and filter, and DO NOT run it low on oil, or let it see any detonation (hyper pistons and non-forged rods won't take much of that).

So don't be afraid to put it on the dyno by any means, unless it is blowing smoke, ticking, knocking, etc... I've only had it on the dyno once, but that was a cake walk compared to all the racing and other abuse the car has seen. I could not even begin to count how many times the car has seen between 56-6000 RPM, even 6100 once or twice.
