U7198 Locked me out of my own

Okay I have a U7198 for a '99 Pontiac Trans AM. I had the original back-up installed in the car when I got it custom tuned and was still able to take that tune out and save it to my computer. I haven't don't anything with it since, no new tunes installed or modified. Well I was trying to take out the tune I have now (same custom tune but with the 4L80 stuff in it http://diablosport.com/index.php?name=P ... highlight= ) but it won't write to the diablo for me to send to you guys. The diablo is saying that it has a modified stock tune in it. Is there anyway I can get the diablo to read back to my original back up or to nothing at all so I can write this new tune for you guys to have fun with for guys doing a 4L80 conversion like I did? I will state that I am the original owner and it is locked to my vehicle. Is there anything I can do?

it's saying that you don't have a stock, original tune in your car... so that's why it won't let you do anything...

it knows that the custom tune in your car is not a stock tune, so that's why you're stuck...

it won't read out that custom tune and save it as the "original backup", because it's not an original stock tune...

but that's just it I was able to do everything before the 4L80 install and have had the custom tune saved as the "original back-up" before and now all of a sudden it switched to having a modified factory tune in it. I can't restore it or I will lose the 4L80 part of the tune. So I guess what I am trying to ask is there a way to get it to read as if I already put the original tune back it so it will read this new one?

right.. BUT.. you have a single PCM in that car... the tune settings for the engine and tranny are all in the same single pcm... so when the tranny settings were changed in it for the new tranny, you changed the tune in the pcm... so now, the tune does not match what it was before, because the tranny settings in it are different now...

there is no separate ecm and tcm, where the engine and tranny settings are kept separately on different modules... your settings are all together, on one single module... so even though you only made changes to tranny settings, you changed the whole tune file setup, so that's why it doesn't match what it was before and won't let you do anything..

what you should have done was "restore original backup" to your car before the tranny settings were tuned for the new tranny setup...

that way, the predator would have been unlocked, and would have read/saved the setup as the original backup...

only way to do that now is to contact diablo tech support on monday and see about getting your predator unlocked/reset....

but, when you go to install a diablo tune from it, it's going to change your tranny settings...

okay I got that already and that is why I already did the "restore original backup" before the tranny change. I was very careful about that. But what I am saying is even with doing that when I plugged it up to get the info for you guys with the tranny change it wouldn't read it and when I did some searching I found that it said "modified factory tune." At that point I was like WTF because I restored it. But I guess either way I am going to have to call huh and not mess with it until I get a cam or something for a new tune?

so you did the restore original backup by going to OPTIONS > TROUBLESHOOTING > RESTORE ORIGINAL BACKUP ???

power up the predator now, and go to OPTIONS > SHOW LAST TUNE WRITTEN
(you don't have to connect to the car for this)

what does it say is the last tune written?

yes because I was sending the pcm out for my old tune plus the new tranny tune. It was the same thing I did when I got the custom tune. It says "modify stock tune." I am going to try some things with trying to change the original back up

so under "last tune written" it says modify stock tune??? then, you did not do the restore original backup process correctly...

you installed the "factory hp tune"...

you needed to go to options > troubleshooting > restore original backup in order to do the original backup restore process correctly...

so yes, while the stock tune was installed to the car by installing the "factory hp tune", it was the copy of it, not the actual "restore original backup" process needed in order to erase it out of the predator and unlock it...

so that's why you can't do anything now... because the tool sees it as the original backup is still stored in the predator, because it wasn't restored correctly to unlock the predator...

if the "restore original backup" process was done correctly, the ONLY thing it should say under "show last tune written" is original backup

I am telling you that's what I did . The only thing I do is take the tune out to save it to my computer. That is why I am confused because I haven't been in that section of the diablo since putting the custom tune into the diablo to transfer it to the computer. Before I started the swap, I went to options etc etc to restore it and sent the pcm off for the new tune.

hmmmm...

ok... and when you got the pcm back and installed to the car... you tried to hook up the predator, and it would not save that tune as the "original backup" now...

did you get the predator upgraded to the new 9rXX revision in between that time?? or was it already upgraded to 9r13 before you did all this??

I know the older versions/revisions would save just about anything as the original backup, but the newer revisions do not, it must be a stock, original OEM tune in order for it to be saved...

do you have any IM man?? that would make this a whole lot easier and faster

I had the older version and got the new one (9r12) before the tune and upgraded it to 9r13 before I copied the custom tune to the diablo and haven't really touched it since. They only reason I did was to see if diablo could do a 4l80 tune for me. When I found out they couldn't I figured I could help them to help others in the future. And as you can tell the diablo must be mad at me for not picking it up in awhile. but yes I will pm you my gmail

okay so me and Monte have talked about it and it seems like the problem is stemming from the fact that the custom tune I got from my tuner with HPtuners is the issue here. So I will still be giving diablo a call on monday and try to get this issue put up in a sticky for future users to beware of Hptuner when using the diablo because it uses a different OS than the GM OS
