Your connection is serial to usb right?

Again, if your system is 64bit os run the DRemover_x64.exe this should remove the driver.

1) Press f8, start without driver signature enforcement
2) Run the dremover_x64 (where you uncompressed the driver)
3) Connect the DS to the ac adapter (power up the predator)
4) Connect the predator to the computer
5) Vista should say found new hardware (if it doesn’t then something else is wrong)
6) If it does detect it "install the hardware I manually select...(advanced)
7) Point to the location of where the drivers are
8) If it says these drivers are not digitally signed continue anyway? say YES

I could probably fix this remotely but I would charge you ;)

Make sure the predator is powered up and try another usb port.

thank you very much it worked that was very fustrating me

I'm getting an error message saying:
"The name is already in use as either a service name or a service display name."

Never mind, I got it to work.
Went in to Device Manager, clicked on com4, clicked update driver, started working.
This was all after doing the f8 at startup thing.

With the new driver you should not need to do f8 anymore. However, you need to uninstall the old driver first and thats why the message came up with "The name is already in use as either a service name or a service display name."

LOL.... I don't think Mike was tying to say there were not driver issues with XP. (I wish) Rather I think he was saying that the diver set used by the USB to serial cable that they use does not seem to exhibit the same flakiness with XP.

Hey cool, I do this for a living as well. I manage 345 work stations and 75 Unix servers and I'll back Mike on this Vista's a pain... especially with connecting to serial ports which I must do on a daily basis. I'm still holding my breath on 7. I get 64 bit, I've had to fight windows file size issues forever. BUT there are better ways to do this and who needs 64bit serial interface? I have some situations where I need to interface with 10 or 12 serial devices at one time.... now that's not fun in windows. ;-) There is a reason most businesses chose to 'skip' vista.

Paul,
speaking to Crimson's valid point about MS ever driving us forward to new stuff here is my suggestion; I use two computers. Primarily I use an old acer laptop WITH a real serial port built in and XP. I picked the ting up for like $80.00, and I've seen them for less. All I do with it is connect it to the predator. It does have a network card so I can use the internet (ONLY FOR ACCESSING THIS SITE) or I can move files between my computers. I also keep a backup copy of my files by using the two systems. I have a nice case for it and the DS Predator and a power inverter. This setup allows me to set the laptop on the passenger seat and log and tune etc. AND best of all I have no issues with it. Nada, zip.. none. works great every time. Battery life I could care less, it's plugged into the inverter. Now I spend my time tweaking my car instead of messing around with my computer..

NOTE: I also connect my DS Predator to windows XP running on a virtual machine on my mac using a USB to serial converter with no issues. I've not tried this yet on vista.

Chime in if Crimsons 64 bit driver version does not do the trick and we'll look at some other options...

Good luck..

I'm going to try that. I love my mac, and it's a lot bigger than the Dell mini I use. I just don't want to install Windows on my Mac at all if I can get away with it.
Options I,II,III-Mods: AiraidCAI w/scoop adapter,180 t-stat,Predator w/ Per93 CAI Tune,BT Catch Can&Bling,KillerGlass,CustomABS Cover,LEDGLOW&Streetglow everywhere,Custom Trunk Liner&Enclosure... I can't stop! It's a sickness!
