09 Silverado 5.3L - U7194 Re-gearing presets?

Post by steeler455 »

I'm getting ready to switch out my 3.42 gears for either 4.10's or 4.30's because I'm upgrading to 35" tires on my 09 Silverado. I have U7194 which I'm running the preset performance tune on. Sorry I don't have the version number handy but I bought it about 6 months ago. My question is are there presets for re-gearing in the U7194 that match 4.10s or 4.30s without having to custom the tune. thanks, Ron

you will need to get hypertech's (Hypertech 730102 - Hypertech Inline Speedometer Calibrator Modules) if you change gears and tires. your abs and brake light WILL come on, and there is no programmer on the market that can fix the issue. You need to get this module from hypertech which plugs into the back of your speedo cluster and you program it via your pc to the new tire and gear combination. You then install whatever tune from your predator you want but do not mess with the tire size or speed limiter

also the u7194 doesnt have the ability to change gear ration, you can change tire size but it screws with gm's calibrations which throw the abs and brake lights on, thus needing the hypertech module, let me know if you have any questions. I have the hypertech and it works flawless and is easy to install.

Yea I saw your post on that and will look into buying it, also saw your truck on the GMfourm, nice. I do have a few questions. I'm running the 93 Peditor tune now and only removed the speed limiter. You said the hypertech adjusts for both the tire size and gear change. Correct? What should i do? Change back to the factory tune, then install the hypertech, then reinstall the Peditor tune...or can I do the Hypertech with the Peditor tune installed. Also, I have to put the speed limiter back on?

yes the hypertech adjusst both tire size and gear ratio changes. Basically you plug the hypertech module into your pc(it comes with the cable which is nice) you then with the software provided put in your new tire size and gear size and it gives you a new calibration which you send to the hypertech, it says "success" and thats it, just go plug it into the back of your cluster(not hard at all, the panels pull of very easy and take ten minutes for a rookie) I can walk you through if needed.

They recommend keeping your speedo the same, with 35 inch tires I hope you wouldnt be hitting 99 mph anyway lol! I sure dont!
As long as you have not messed with the tire size with your diablo you will not need to put your stock tune in then put your tune back in. The hypertech does not reprogram the ecm or affect your tunes it just provides the proper calibration for the EBCM(brake module) and speed sensor readings so the abs and brake lights stay off! Hope this helps

Thanks man very helpful information...btw what did you do for your 35" spare and jack? Seems most are just throwing a spare in the bed because it won't fit under the truck but do you also have to get a new jack or just carry a piece of 6x6 post with you to set the factory jack on? thanks.

I have the u7194 and it comes with gear ratio changes. I have a 2008 silverado with 35" tires and 4.56 gears. My predator works fine! I would do some more research if i was u.

So does your ABS light stay on? Was the 5.46 a preset or can you plug in what you have. I was thinking going with 4.30 gears. I have the 6 speed tranny...more details would be appreaciated dude.

what revsion do you have on your predator beefcake? I have tried them all(from 8r10 all the way up to 9t09f) and HAVE NEVER seen one with a gear ratio selector.
What package silverado do you have? We have tested several 07 and newer gmt900 trucks(all of them being lt1 or better packages with jl3 and no stablitrak) and all of them threw the codes with tire changes. For the most part 9 out of 10 gmt900's will throw the lights if you use ANY programmer to change the gear ratio or tire size. Your best bet steeler455 is to put on your bigger tires and gears and use the predator to change them, if it throws the lights you will need the hypertech calibrator. Im a betting man and Ill gladly bet that the lights will come on.

Alright here we go!

My truck would not load the croms on the website, so i called tech support and was given a custom crom 9t14. This has some wierd feature that my truck needed to take any tune. I talked to Mike L and he emailed me the crom i needed. I was told at some point that the U7194 was able to adjust for gears. I made sure of this before i bought it as i already had gears in my truck and really needed this feature. Anywaz, I called back and asked mike why the gear ratio adjustment was not loaded on that crom, and he said it is supposed to be there. It was not! Mike then told me to email back to crom file that he sent me and he would have my gear ratio adjusted to my 4:56's.
He apologized many times, took care if right away and from talking to him and my research the U7194 it should have gear ratio adjustment. Long story short they had my gears programmed in a few hours and at N/C!!

ps. I have no issues with any type of brake light or abs light and i have a Cam!

i changed my tires to 35's and no light came one. I also installed factory air sensors, maybe that helped. my programmeer does not have gear ratio adjustments, but my truck came with 4:10's already.

there was more than one type of ABS module used by GM. I believe it was discussed before on this forum.

yeah there is 4 abs modules that gm offers for the gmt900. Its a bosch system. Some can handle the changes and some cant

the issue that causes the brake/abs light is a frequency issue between the vss and the ebcm when larger tires or different gears are put on. So yes, if your predator works awesome, if not you will need the hypertech to fix the frequency issue and your speedo
