spark knock running perf 87 tune on ram 5.7
Moderator: mikel
Question then if no part throttle fuel or timming have been changed in the perf. caned tunes and only wot setting have been modyfied to gain the extra hp and torque then how come some people or reporting better idling and performance under normal driving conditions as most driivers dont drive around at wot. So if im correct the gains from running these tunes should only be noticible under wot conditions something doesnt add up.

Better idle would have to be a placebo effect....unless something clears up from the reflash process...
ALso, throttle response is increased everywhere, which accounts for most of the SOTP gains.

You said above that you have ST knock with the stock tune.rstp wrote:hey mike went back to stock tune with same gas no problems got some st around 3 at cruising speed under load but thats it .burnt that tank of fuel and went to defferent brand and back to 87 oct re-instaled perf 87 tune and no better getting up to 8 st knock and up to 4.5 lt what now .
Then you posted
How can you say there is "none with stock" if you say above that you were getting knock at cruising speed under load? Then has fuel been taken away in the lower rpm range and if timming has not been changed why problems with the perf 87 tune and none with the stock?"
Use better gas my friend. I think we all purchase the Predator to make our vehicles run quicker/faster. It takes more octane to make more power. AND yes some vehicles still need some adjustment with the canned tunes. I have two Predators, the 5.7 runs pretty close, I just add a small amount of gas, but my 6.1 needs a lot of gas at WOT to keep itself quiet for the sensors.

Dude, I am trying to help. I can read and spell correctly. I quoted you above and you talk about ST knock.
It is uncommon to have knock with a 87 Octane tune, unless you are using water for fuel. Buy better fuel! It is tough to be at 4000' I feel for ya, that sucks the performance right out of an engine, but I know they still sell at least 91 octane gas right? That is what Mike told you and that is what I suggested to you.
With my '07 5.7L I run the 91 octane tune, load about 5% more fuel across the board, and can use about anything marked 91 octane and better. My wife even buys COSTCO 92 octane and it works fine. Thing runs like a champ and I can log that thing anytime with little or no knock except during shifts which is expected. I am basically at 1000'. The only reason I would use the 89 octane program is towing. Then I still use the best gas I can find. I actually recorded ZERO knock even at WOT up hills with the load on the back towing at about 3000' in the Black Hills. I purchased the tool for performance, tuning like I describe and better gas mileage and am very happy.
In my 6.1L I use 93 Octane BP gas period unless I am burning E-85. With the canned tunes I and quite a few others find that we need up to 20% gas at WOT to get the knocking to be quiet on that beast. But once tuned...it is fun!

Well i tried everything even loaded the perf 93 tune and removed 2 degrees timming still part throttle problems under load and im running 91 oct.
Stock running the 91oct i get no st or lt now who knows whats going on but ive read post in the trinity forum and im not the only person having issues with the 09 5.7 running the perf 87 tune cruising and under load what i dont get is why offer a tune for 87 oct fuel when dodge recommends 89 oct as mike says maybe its a placibo effect caused by altering the wot settings i dont no but for the time being ill stay with the modified tune still like the programmer hope this issues get resolved

Well spoke to a CMR tuner about my problem and he advised me that he could fix the issue im having with the caned tunes for a small fee of course .
So i asked him why am i having problems with the caned tunes his answer was that they ramp the ignition map to fast wich causes the problems along with leaning the tune out for better mpg thats hes opinion .
So i quess the only way ill remedy the problem will be to bring it in for a custom tune that was not my intentions when i bought the tool '

Well mike i desided to take my truck the the cmr tuner as something just didnt add up and figured id get better results and the price was right .Well not impressed as i ask you if there was any changes done to the part throttle fuel and timming which you said no all changes are done to wot and thats it Well when we pulled the perf 87 tune and compared it to the stock tune well well guess what we found changes to the part throttle fuel and timming are made to make it short because im not to pleased we tried a couple of deferent set up and the best we came up with was to restore the fuel to factory settings across the hole map and we left the timming that diablo added alone im happy with the results it does pull harded and runs better as the settings were on the lean side. also as i said earlier in my post i do not recommend running 87oct in any 09 or 10 5.7 as that is or was part of the issue so again wy makw a 87 tune for something that should run 89

How exactly do you change part throttle fueling?
It is controlled by the O2 sensors and will always be 14.7:1...couldn't change it if we tried.
Can I see your stock tune and the predator tune from your truck please?
