I have read tons of topics on here and it seems that the LTF's change so much with weather. So my question is do you have to log every day to get the full benefit of this tool. And if not, then are we actually seeing gains from getting the LTF's dialed in or is it just hype?
Anyone have conclusive data supporting gains?
Anyone have 0-60mph logs before and after tune?
LTF's ? Is it really a one day tune?
RE: LTF
do the logging when it's the warmest outside temps in your area... set the slope so that your average ltft's are in the 0 to -2 range... and you're done...
no need to log it every day, keep changing it, etc etc....
you can log again during the winter/colder weather and use a different adjustment for those weather conditions if you want, but you don't HAVE to...
and yes, you do see gains... you gain quicker throttle response, better acceleration, stronger/harder pull, and you get better mileage...

RE: LTF
But how much better is the real debate. I know I should not log and adjust everyday. But my point is that my settigns will only be optimal for one weather condition. If the LTF's fluctuate that much on their own, how could dialing them in possibly make that big of a difference. What is the difference in the ecm making a 5% slope adjustment v/s a 7% slope adjustment. I mean it is going to make the calculations and compensations for the LTF's regardless. As long as they are within the range of the various engine sensors what difference does it make?
After all, these are daily drivers, not top fuel dragsters. Just seems like a waste to me.
And a claim is just a claim. If someone has hard facts sucha as a 0-60mph log showing the difference I will gladly support the concept.
I am skeptical because I am not convinced I have gained anything with the 87 octane diablo tune v/s the stock tune. I am in the process of comparing a "dialed in" stock tune. The only benchmark I have at my disposal is 0-60 times on the log files.

RE: LTF
let's say, stock, your ltft's can fluctuate from -5 to +5 from warm weather to cold weather...
now, you get your injector slope adjusted, so that your ltfts are in the 0 to -2 range... (during warm weather)... . so, then when winter comes along, your ltft's will only go up by about +2 due to the colder temps...
so, your swing in the amount of fueling is only -2 to +2... a lot better than swingin' from -5 to +5... right??
so, fuel economy goes up because it's not using as much fuel to compensate for the trims, and since the ecm doesn't have to adjust the fueling nearly as much on it's own now - your throttle response is better, as is your acceleration, etc etc....

How are we actually changing how far they swing? If they swing from -5 to +5 stock then would they not swing -2 to +8 dialed in? I do not understand.
And are the processors in the ecm so slow that it takes longer to recalculate +5 then -2? Are we stopping the ecm from doing the calculations in either scenario?
I understand we are trying to zero in on the -2 to 0 tolerance, but how is it actually helping considering they can vary from day to day.
Trust me, I want to believe I am getting my moneys worth for this unit, I just cannot prove it yet. IThe predator is supposed to remove TM from the engine. But I cannot see in the log were the Torque Management spark retard is hurting anything. Just cutting timing during the shiifts for a split second. And the 87 diablo tune is a minimum of 1.5 degrees less timing than the factory tune. I have not compared part throttle timing yet. I get no TKR with either tune.

Re: RE: LTF
What you say kind of makes sense to me considering we are tricking the computer into thinking the injectors are larger or smaller than they actually are. Then when the ecm calculates it needs to spray more or less fuel, the amount of fuel added or removed is not the correct amount since it thinks the injectors are a different size than what is actually available to it.rjaro7 wrote:as crazy as it may sound... my truck feels more sluggish when i dial in the ltfts... thats why i just install the tune and leave them alone
Makes sense in my head but hard to put into words.

So I take it no one has any 0-60 logs to support improvement? Stock v/s tuned.
