not yet... that's GrumpyAeroGuy's forte'...

and I know he's been working 70-hour weeks for a while now, so he hasn't had time to breathe...

however, we have been talking about this new updated version actually being a "donation-ware" type of deal... asking people for just $25 in order to be able to get it...

After all, Grumpy needs SOMEthing for all of his time and effort for programming that awesome app!!

when it's available, I or GrumpyAeroGuy will let everyone know...

Removing the speed limiter?

Post by wolf13_69 »

Hey,
I’m having the same problem as these guys with my 2010 2SS. I have a U7194 I’m using the 91 octane tune and I have turned off the speed limiter about 4-5 times now and it’s still there. If you could help me I would appreciate it.

On another note I’m wondering if anyone else is having the same results I am. All I have done to my 2SS is a breathless cold air intake, 160 SLP thermostat, and the 91 octane tune and I dynode 411hp and 405tq rear wheel. I’m just wondering if my car is a freak or there all like this. Thanks!

here ya go...

oh, and the 160* t-stat doesn't really do anything for ya... the fan settings can't be adjusted for anything lower than 192* anyway... and the stock t-stat is a 187*...

by going to that lower one, it will be open all the time, constantly flowing coolant and not giving it a chance to cool off in the radiator before it starts flowing again... so could actually hurt performance... that old-school mod doesn't really apply to these newer vehicles any more...

and these cars make better/more power at 200* - 208* than anything lower really...

just my 2 pennies... heh...

yes everytime i installed it i ran it up to 155 and got the same result everytime. as for the 160 stat my car runs from 170 to 185 with the stock fan settings. even when i dynode it never got above 185. i actually ran it at 185 with the tune i sent you and it ran 407 rwhp and when it cooled to 172 it ran 411rwhp. but thank you for removing the speed limiter. i just want to know exactly how fast this beast will go.

wolf,

did you disable COT protection before doing the dyno runs?

you shouldn't because you won't drive with COT disabled when you have cats.

you should because you are trying to verify and tune.

If you leave catalytic overtemp enabled it will richen up the fuel mixture on you while on the dyno whether you made any changes to the tune or not making you essentially tune a car too lean.

you can always re-enable it after you are done with your dyno session to maintain the long term durability.

COT is triggered based on feedback from the vehicle sensors to estimate exhaust temps. The formula varies by automaker and engine but you will get false before/after results if COT is enabled.

For instance, when COT is left enabled on a car during the baseline of the dyno tune the numbers are lower and the car appears to be too rich. Then, the tuner reduces/disables COT the car magically makes more power than a typical tune should make.

To eliminate this issue it is good to discern legitimate gains from the tune from those uncovered because of COT.

In general it is not a good idea to disable COT full time if you have catalytic converters installed because excessive heat will damage the converter and can lead to engine failure. Excessive exhaust temps will also tulip the exhaust valves over time and can damage oxygen sensors prematurely. COT is designed to richen the mixture up to cool the exhaust down when the pcm estimates that it has exceeded a safe limit.

yeah... on a dyno, yes Red...

but when you and I were talkin, and you were doing WOT runs for me on the street... no - leave the COT on, cuz you're out driving the car around...

plus, I don't use any of the data past the COT kickin' on point anyway... and it's easy to tell when it does heh...

as you could tell yesterday Red... tweaked your tune, and told ya what it should be at now... and you went out and verified it with a WOT blast... ;-)

s'all good...

that is why lew is a good tuner. he knows how to parse of the real data for tuning.

If you go on a dyno and just look at your a/f plot with COT enabled, it does not parse out the COT kicking in which can mean the WOT fuel settings done to incorrectly compensate for COT will make it run lean when COT is not kicking in and it defeats the purpose of COT in the first place which is to ensure durability of sensitive exhaust components.

Your in good hands with lew.
