Help with Tuning - Exhaust and Intake...

Post by ksucrow »

I'm new to the forums and just got my predator earlier today. It is a U7193 with the latest 9r08 revision. It's going to be used on an 04 GMC Sierra Regency RST with the 4.8L V8. I'm pretty excited to get to try it out on my truck.

My question is, what settings should I adjust on my tune for my truck for the mods that have already been done. The truck has a K&N FilterCharger kit as well as JBI headers and cat-back exhaust. The truck also has aftermarket spark plug wires and coils. Any input for a newbie would be awesome and I'm looking forward to spending a lot of time on here learning the ropes.

Thanks!

I'm guessing you have shorty headers??? cuz you didn't say you have any trouble codes or a CEL on your dash - which would normally be the case with long tube headers...

after you install the tune, put on about 50-75 miles to let things get relearned by the pcm and fuel trims settle in, then do some cruising data logs and check your ltft's, and get your slope adjusted correctly to get your ltfts in the 0 to -2 range...

here's info:

Thanks for the advise. I followed your directions and my ltft's were at over 10 to start with and now are between -.76 and 0 for both banks. Is there anything else I should do to improve performance more?

so if you went about -10% on your slope adjustment, I would go -5% in all rpm ranges for the WOT/PE (power enrichment) fueling...

I actually had to drop it 11% does that matter on the rpm range for the WOT/PE fueling or should I still do -5%? Also what settings do I change to change for the WOT/PE on the tuner. Sorry I'm still new at the whole tuning thing...

yeah, I would still go -5%... that'll be a little better than what it is now, and still PLENTY safe... it can always be dialed in better if you decide to ever get a custom tune.

if you go into the Power Enrichment section under Modify Tune, you'll see you have 3 rpm ranges...

you need to go into each one, change it to -5%, press the center enter button the predator to save the change... then press the ESC button to get back out to the rpm range listings... then go into the next rpm range, change that one to -5%, press the center enter button to save it, press ESC to back out... go into the 3rd rpm range, do the same thing, etc etc...

once they're all changed, press the ESC button a few times until it asks you to "Install Tune Now?" -- answer/select YES and it will install those changes to your truck.

I dropped the WOT fuel 5% in each of the rpm ranges. Do you think I need to do anything with the WOT spark advance?

Thanks for all the tips and the help! I made the changes and I'm taking a drive to KC tomorrow night after work. It's about a 2 hour drive down I-70 so I'm going to do a longer log and see how everything looks. I really appreciate the help, and we'll see how she works!
