well its not that simple... but here are two pictures to take a look at, they are both base stock timing tables one for timing when in drive and the other for when in park/neutral. for total timing i can't help you out anymore than to tell you that there are two tables that the engine can choose to run on, either a low or high octane table.

yeah, thats a loaded question, its not like setting base and total timing on a distributor, there arer many factors that affect timing, from IAT, ECT, throttle position, RPM, speed, load, and more.

yep these are different than my 350 with a distributer. my 350 makes alot of power, my 5.3 doesnt.

our 2003 5.3L walks all over our older 5.7. Maybe you have a happy motor.

I would use the dslogredux program to dial in your tune and not worry about timing settings using your logic because there are too many adders and subtractors to the actual timing based on air temp, coolant temp, load, etc.

you may want to add timing and try to lean out fuel mixture in small increments at WOT and log the knock response.

my ltft are at -0.78. timing is up 10% which i believe is 3 degrees. + performance tune. no knock. any where on rpm's. what do i look for to find rich and lean.. if my ltft are on should i just leave it.. also would i throw an engine light if i were to gut the cats.what are the adjustments on the bottom of the screen of programmer like ''cot'' etc.. my 350 is a happy motor, its in my cj8. it will kill my truck 0-60 :)

go to dslogredux.com and download and use that application while following the how to datalog information. It is free, but they take donations if you want to support the servers.

the program will analyze your datalog, help you dial-in the LTFT's for the injector slope and also help you dial-in the WOT fuel settings for the rich/lean. the injector slope adjustments help dial-in the part throttle performance and the WOT fueling helps for the full throttle pulls.

It may also give you recommendations concerning timing. The software will give you the exact inputs it recommends based on your datalog. Then you can go drive a little to let the changes settle in and then relog and a run the program again to see if recommendations changed.
