Excursion PATS
I sent this Saturday to Mike L in a PM. The PM is still in my outbox, so he hasn't picked it up yet. Anyone else want to take a stab at it?
I am prepping my Excursion for our lovely smog checks in California beginning this year. Yesterday, I removed my DP Tuner and modified the case for the PCM so that I don't have to go under the hood to remove it any more. Since I had it out, I started up and drove around a little in stock. Then, I decided to try the new tunes from my Predator. (I exchanged my old one for a newer one some months ago.) I tried loading the 110hp tune, and the truck wouldn't start. I set it back to stock; still no start. Read trouble codes, and got P1260. I'm able to drive the truck by loading a tune and modifying the alarm system to off, but this is not the answer. Why will the tool not restore the original back-up without the PATS showing a problem?
I'll be calling Monday to get answers if I don't hear back before then.
Thanks for any help!

So it is new to you.... What does this mean to me? Go to the dealer and drop $100 to have the PATS reset?mikel wrote:Thats new to me, when it restores it should fire right up....

Ok well that is in fact an excursion ID that is back in the truck, just making sure nothing screwy happened. Has another tuner ever been on this truck?

RE: Excursion PATS
I had an older Predator (128k memory) that i traded for this current one. As stated in my original post, I had a DP Tuner installed. Took it out to modify the mounting so I'll have easy access when I go for smog check. Left the chip off the truck. Drove it around a bit in stock, then tried to load the new tunes from Predator. Tried the 110hp tune first; would crank but not fire. Restored original; crank and no fire. Installed 85hp, and modified the alarm system parameter to "off". Truck started fine. Restored to stock; code P1260. Installed 110hp tune, modified alarm parameter to "off"; truck starts and runs. Try to restore original; P1260 again.
RE: Excursion PATS
hmm question..are you able to read cal id when the truck is in dead mode?

I'll check when I get home. 6:00 your time. I'll post results.
I appreciate your efforts on this problem, but I also appreciate honesty and integrity.
Does this appear to be something that can be fixed from your end, or does it look like I'll need to have the dealer reset the PATS?
Thanks again!

RE: Excursion PATS
Is the DP tuner a plug in chip?
Will the truck start with it plugged in?

RE: Excursion PATS
No, it is not if you mean as the Predator is "Plug-In". The DP Tuner is a daughter board that goes directly onto the PCM, and a cable runs from it to a switch that allows me to change tunes "on the fly". The DP Tuner was written SPECIFICALLY for MY Excursion, with the supporting mods (CAI; 4" Turbo-back exhaust).mikel wrote:Is the DP tuner a plug in chip?

I have not tried remounting my chip until I can restore this truck back to stock!

RE: Excursion PATS
OK, well, reason I ask is the chipmay have the PATS info on it, and may very well allow the vehicle to start and run if it is installed.
Give it a shot!

RE: Excursion PATS
Yea i was curious to ask if the chip was installed when the backup was pulled
as far as your question goes if it can be fixed through us I am unsure until we exhaust all of these methods.

I'll ask Jody or Diane, but I don't think the chip has any PATS info on it.....mikel wrote:OK, well, reason I ask is the chipmay have the PATS info on it, and may very well allow the vehicle to start and run if it is installed.
