1998 Mustang Gt 4.6 car dies after warm and I try to start

Post by rlnewman »

U7146, 1998 Mustang GT 4.6 stock, except air intake and exhanst.
Car starts fine when cold, runs great, shut it off and then try to restart, will not continue to run after starting it, like not getting fuel or too much fuel sputters & dies.
Once car sets for 15, 20 minutes, starts and runs fine.
Ideas please !

Sounds like a possible coolant temp sensor giving you issues. When a car starts cold it's in open loop, once warmed up via the ect, it goes into closed loop which uses o2 sensor feedback. Like mike said, check for codes and take a look at that sensor. I've seen this plenty of times and upon inspection of the sensor, it falls apart
