U7130 - Extreme setting Question

Post by wku2010 »

Ive got an 03 (6 speed) cummins that is all stock except for gauges (boost, pyro, fuel), straight pipe exhaust, and a predator programmer (U7130, v.9r05).

I mainly run on the tow tune and performance tune for fuel mileage. But on the weekends, I'll turn it up to the extreme setting to play a little bit. I don't really drive it really hard that often, just occasionally. My question is, is it okay to keep it on the extreme setting for days at a time? I've always hear (not from anyone very credible though) that it will cause damage if you keep it on the extreme setting. Also what should I watch for to break by keeping it turned up?

I go pretty easy on the clutch, I'll wait before it is fully engaged before I really get into it. So what else is there to watch out for breaking? Or is it okay to just keep it on the extreme setting as long as I drive it normal?

Well, other then the obvious (burning up the clutch) I would have to say watch the EGT's cause the extra heat isn't very nice to the valve seats....

ive tried every tune available and i always end up running the extreme rkl puff with no timming added.i use it as a daily runner and drive it normal and get the best milage on that tune.like posted above take it easy in the higher gears and watch the pyro and all is good.ive had the pred for almost 2 years and its great.

I agree. Just drive like a sain person and you will be fine. It's the dummies that jack there tunners up and kill there trannys. Then they try to blame the tunner...! HA. Blame the lead foot behind the wheel.

extream rkl puff w/no timming is a great tune for milage. 25mpg in town and 38-40 highway for me.

Whoa! What all have you done to your truck? Is it 4wd? Mine is an 07 (5.9) 4x4 6 speed. I take it pretty easy MOST of the time, and I'm only getting 11 in town and 14-15 on the highway. I've got the predator 7131 on performance tune. I wonder what gives?

have my 03 5.9 with the exhaust side of the manifold ported, Super B, Bd 2 piece exhaust manifold, Banks Hi-Ram intake Horn, AFE stage 2, Boost fooler Diablo tuner w/puck, Bd full billet race tranny, Marine head gasket Hamilton springs and rods.

Just a lill FYI. Your Year an up will not get as good of milage as mine and older.

Oh wow, I got a ways to go to catch up with you on mods... :)

I just bought the truck, trying to figure out where I need to start. The predator helped out alot, and I've done some exhaust work. I need to do intake, then I don't know.

Cool, I'll run that tune for a bit and see how it goes. What are the differences in the 4 RKL tunes?? I've got them downloaded and in my programmer but what is the difference in them?

I just loaded the RKL w/ no timing. Once I started driving it and got above 1500 rpms the engine started rattling really bad. It did the same with the RKL puff tune. Then it ran okay with the RKL tune.

I'll have to try the puff tune tomorrow and see how it acts. Any reason why the engine would start rattling really bad with these two tunes??
