2005 Magnum RT 5.7 - major issues

Post by vanderclute »

I have a 2005 Magnum 5.7L with K&N CAI, and have had a lot of problems with my U7135 Predator programmer. Regardless of which program I choose to load, the car will run fine until I shut it off. When I turn it back on again, the engine runs very rough and the check engine light comes on (and sometimes the esp/bas light). When i then try to shut the car off, the engine runs for about 4 seconds with the ignition off and the key out and then eventually rumbles out of gas.

If i re-program it or choose a different program, I get the same exact results. This even happens with the 'stock' tune. I read a little bit about the early 2005's having some unique issues, but I would love if someone could give me advice on how to fix this. The car is driveable as is, but I feel like I'm doing damage to the engine and am totally unable to return the car to stock performance.

I bought the programmer last June (2009). It has not had any updates or custom tunes installed.

Any help would be tremendously appreciated.

Meant to note - when i've run programs, i've made sure that all aftermarket electronics are disconnected.

there are as many as 19 different codes that come up. most are for different sensors. i haven't spent the time to look at what each code is individually, but if that is essential for figuring out the problem, i can definitely do it. the car only has 29k miles on it and has no other modifications, with exception to a Thrush free flow glass pack exhaust.

hi - i pulled the codes. while running the stock tune, i got 8 codes: u1411, u1403, u110c, u110f, u110e, u113, u110a, u0103. I then tried to install the 93 octane CAI tune and got 8 more codes - the first seven were the same, except the 8th one was u0121 instead of u0103. With both tunes, when i shut the car off, it idles very rough for 3-4 seconds with the key out of the ignition and then finally turns off.

as far as other data on the programmer, i have:
born: 3/30/2009 8502
serial: d00683e
version: v9r17
hardware: univ_rev2

this morning, i was running the same 93 octane CAI program as yesterday and in addition to my check engine light, my esp/bas light was on. i pulled the check engine codes and they were slightly different than yesterday's, despite the fact i was running the same program. the codes were: u1141, u1403, u110c, u110f, u110e, u113, u0141, u0110a. i hope we can find the solution!

OK, first thing Id do is update to the latest version.

These are all communication codes, which seem very odd for the tuner to be causing them.

Have you tried disconnecting the battery for a second after you get these codes?

so keep the tune in there, pull fuse 11, wait a minute, put it back in and then fire it back up? i'll give that a try.

i would hate to blame the programmer, but i never had any issues with this car until i hooked up the u7135. i hope and update and the fuse 11 trick will fix it!

thanks for the help. i'll let you know what happens.

okay - pulled #11, waited about a minute, put it back in and let it idle for about a minute (didn't drive it). The CEL was not on while it was idling, but when i shut it off, it continued to run with the key out of the ignition. when i turned it back on, everything was back to the way it was before - the CEL was on with the same codes as before.

unless you have any other recommendations, i guess my next step will be to buy an adapter, update my programmer and try re-programming it.

This is not a tuner problem. You said it dose it with the stock tune. The run on or diseling is a problem with the timing. Take it to the dealer you need to return it to stock before you do.

This issue started immediately after using the Predator. it was not a pre-existing condition.

If its doing it when you have the stock tune in it its not a tuner issue. It may have happened after you put the tune in but its still some thing wrong with the car.
