2010 Challenger 5.7 - manual trans skip shift

Post by tcon »

Hi
I'm thinking of purchasing the Predator U7135 for 2005-2010 Dodge Vehicles.

I have a 2010 Challenger RT with 5.7L Hemi, 6 speed Tremec TR6060 manual transmission.
Chrysler put a feature called "skip shift" into their programming, which forces a shift from 1st to 4th under certain circumstances.
I could purchase a resistor to fake out the programming - but I've heard that the Predator, among the other very cool features, can eliminate the skip shift through the programming.

Will the Predator U7135 stop the skip shift in the 10 Challenger 5.7 6 speed?

Have the same car, but having bad luck getting the skip shift to work for me. Vas went ahead and made me a "custom" tune based off 9r21, and the first time it threw a CEL. Then he said there was an issue with a template they used. Sent me another and lo and behold it did get rid of the skip shift. BUT, now my horn doesn't work. Took the tune off, and my horn is fine. So now my Predator is collecting dust and I'm running stock. :x

Well -- there is always the option of using the Predator to tune the performance and use the resistor plug to fool the skip shift. Quite a shame to take a $375 piece of engineering and waste it...
You've seen the resistor plugs, right?

hi, i'm a new member and just got a predator tuner - had same question about the shift skip - i've read in multiple places that shift skip is automatically disabled whenever a tune is loaded - however, I've had tune for 2 days, and have already shift-skipped 3 times, so its apparently not working. Is there a setting that needs to be tinkered with, or does the shift skip eliminator need to be used?? Using v.9r21

I've had the car put up since early December, but I was running u7135-9r12 I believe and had no skip shift issue. ie it was off. I'm not sure if it's something in a tune after that or not? 09 R/T

the shift skip seems less common with the tune (maybe i'm just driving it harder) but i would LOVE to get some of DS' feedback. . . . . . . . . . .

I doubt it is your driving, I had the issue enough around town before the install. Not had it since. I'm doubtful it's the way I'm driving because of where the issues were happening...

Not a big deal I guess. If it becomes a problem I'll just through a skip shift (resistor) on it. I agree, it would be nice to know however..

Does anyone have the specs on the resistor and where to solder or wire it?? -KBone

I believe it is a 2.2K Ω (2200 Ω), 1/2 watt resistor it goes across the pins that normally go to the coil for the solenoid in the transmission. Basically you are presenting the coil resistance back to the ECU so it does not think the coil is open and throw a trouble code.

You'll need to seal it all up. Both ends to keep moisture out. While this is a very inexpensive fix frankly for the money any of the skip shift eliminator kits are a handy deal. They include both plugs so you just plug it inline. That way they keep dirt and moisture out. About 12 bucks on ebay..

I had a CMR tuner tell me that he can turn it off but on some CAL's it doesn't work. I was lucky, on mine it's now off but I put the skip-shift plugs in just in case. 09 SRT8 6spd Challenger.

I think it's a sales gimmick when it comes to the skip shift subject. I searched many areas in all the menu's and it's just not listed. the manual (Mopar') say's the solenoid prevents the shift for 1st to 2nd or 2nd to 3rd when certian criteria is met (rpm's, engine temp, and vehicle speed) it's odd everbody has the same problem with just the 1st to 2nd shift. When I shift from 1st to 2nd and don't use the clutch, I don't encounter the problem. (if ya wait for the R's to drop, there's no problem)

It's not a setting on the tuner, in most cases simply installing the tune removes the feature. It worked on mine with no issues. Then at some point the method that was used to 'bypass' the skip shift stopped working on the newer crom releases on some cars.

There is a hard ware work around as well that works great...

you are fairly correct on your understand of how the stock programing works.

Also, if you are truly trying to shift without the clutch you will soon have transmission issues as doing that has not been a good idea for years. Once upon a time back when straight cut gears were used in transmissions it was an option. Even then it was not of much use.. On a modern transmission such as our Tremec_TR-6060 it's not really an option.

Buy the 12.00 plug in, and forget it. No more problems. This has been an issue and alot of threads on this subject at the LX and ChallengerTalk Forums also.

There is no sales gimmick

We can disable skip shift in any tune.

Some certain calids did not disable it like all others, and we have since created custom tunes to fix this for those with that calid, and we will be adding the new fixed tunes to the next update.

It is not in the menu of the Predator as it is not an option, kip shift is disabled as part of the tune.
