I found a USB/Serial driver that works!

Sabrent USB to 9-pin serial adapter.
Windows XP 32-bit

Stupid CD that came with adapter was blank and the drivers (all versions) from Sabrent's website and Prolific's website (chip maker) wouldn't work on neither my PC or laptop. Then finally I went to another manufacture's website for a last ditch attempt at installing an "off brand" driver and bygolley it worked! (at least for the windows xp driver).
Here is the link, it may help you too. Just paste the Ser2pl.sys file to the Windows>System32>drivers folder (erase over the one already there if you need to) and then like magic, it worked for me. Didn't even have to restart.
