06 dodge diesel best programmer for mpg??

Post by Kenneth30 »

Just bought 2006 dodge diesel with 128 k miles on. I purchased it with a k n intake and magnaflow exhaust. Everything else is stock. Was looking for the best chip or programmer for mpg with the least amount of issues.

well asking that here might get you a bit biased answer or opinions. I would say that in my experience that the fuel savings are much smaller part then the gain in drive ability. With a bit of tuning even the tow tunes just make these trucks come alive. There are many programmers out there, I find this one very good for me, milage is up or for sure not down, but like a said the way it drives and feels is why I could not go back to stock.

I was looking at the diablo predator, smarty jr, hypertech, or the edge. Which one these would be most suitable for a mostly stock truck like mine? I'm looking for something easy that will not cause several problems down the road. A chip or programmer that has decent power upgrades and great mpg increase. Which chip would that be? Something with no headaches, decent

Any of them are going to claim the most MPG increase to sell more units. But they all deliver about the same in my opinion. And there is no way to say for sure how much its going to increase since each truck is different. Like RRAM said, the biggest perk is the increase in drivability, and they are all going to give you that. If you aren't going to run gauges to monitor things, regardless of which unit you buy, you need to stick with the lower settings or you will have major problems. Other than that, you will probably be happy with any of them, and they each run the same risk of causing problems (which is minimal on lower settings).

You need to get rid of the K&N, thats the worst you can buy. Great for gas, horrible for diesels. Get a different brand. Honestly, the stock air box will flow enough until you start getting over 500 horsepower. ALOT of guys have ruined motors running K&N

there is also the option of just getting a puck, my brother swears he save fuel with his, adds good power, the new ones have a dial to adjust power setting not just a toggle for 2 settings. might be something to look at. When I drive his it seems to have better power takeing off from a light, mine bogs and smokes a bit more, but I also have a low stall converter. good luck on your choice, I have to say I love my predator, install tune and drive

i have a 06 4x4 with 315x70r17 tires with the s&b intake, no cat and an aero 4040xl muffler and with the predator set on performance, i was getting 20+ mpg and it ran awsome! when i stacked it with the extreme powerpuck i didnt see much change in mpg but it did take off quicker, but when i put 90hp ddp injectors, it droped to 17-19 mpg.
