Copy a custom tune from installer

Post by calbert »

I'm having some performance ugpardes done to my vehcile. Currently, it has a custom Diablo tune installed.

The installer will need to do custom tunes post install of headers, new exhaust system, and CAI.

How do I copy, the tune after the installer dials in the new custom tune so I can save it on my Diablo Trinity, and then put it on my PC.

The installer won't be using the Diablo Trinity to make the changes, he'll be using advanced tuning tools on a computer.

I would like to have the cutom tune copied to the Trinity (in Trinity codes), so I can change between the factory tune and the new custom tune as required when I bring the vehicle back to the dealer for maintenance.

is this "dealer/installer" a diablosport CMR custom tuner???

you will HAVE to restore the original backup stock tune to the vehicle before he starts to touch anything!!!

and you will not be able to restore your original stock backup tune to the car anymore... you will have to go to your "dealer/installer" from now on in order to do anything with the tune in your car...

My understanding is they don't use Diablo products to do the tunes post hardware upgrades. And, although he can provide the tune file from their computer, chances are it won't be coded the same as a Diablo device.

I can find out the exact tools they use if necessary.

However, I'll put the stock tune back in the vehicle, he will take a copy to use as a baseline using the professional tools the shop uses, and then I can put another tune back into the vehicle using the Trinity device to get my stock tune backed up on the Trinity device "again". So, now that takes care of my ability to restore the stock tune.

After the new mods on the vehicle, they'll dyno, and tune accordingly.

So, back to to original question. Wth the stock tune backed up on the Trinity device, is there a way to get the new tune on the vehicle copied to the Trinity device?

ummm.... no...

once they tune your car with some other software, your "stock tune" - i.e. the original stock GM tune is gone. if you want that restored, you will have to go back to them and have them flash it back to your pcm with their tuning software... you will not be able to do it with the trinity..

and if you do what you're talking about, you will also lock the trinity so you can't use it at all...

cuz even if you restore the original stock gm tune to the car so they grab a copy of that to do their tuning to.. and then you install a diablo tune to your car so that the trinity saves the original backup stock tune...

then, they are doing to install THEIR custom tune to your car... and now at THAT point, the trinity is useless for you... because the "last tune written" to your car by the trinity will NOT match the tune that is actually in the car - because they overwrote it with their custom tune.... so since the tunes don't match, the trinity will not let you do anything with any tunes at that point.

so no, you will NOT be able to use the trinity to restore the original backup...

if you restore original backup to the car so that they can do their custom tuning to it, and then you hook up the trinity to your car after they've installed their tune, the trinity will save their custom tune as the "original backup"... but again, that won't be your original stock GM tune...

Considering, I copied the stock tune to my PC, can I copy that to the Trinity as a custom tune, after I backup the custom tune from the installer?

Also, can the tune from the installer convert to Trinity format, if provided to Diablo?

At this point unsure as to why I bought this device for $600, this was my main goal for purchasing the Diablo device, was to be able to backup / restore tunes as I made modifications to my vehicle.
