COT stands for catalytic overtemp protection. Basically, this part of the software uses a formula using the sensor data from intake temperature, coolant temp, engine speed, load, etc, to estimate how hot the exhaust is and therefore how hot the exhaust components are getting.

When catalytic converters get too hot for an extended period of time, they will prematurely break down and fail. To keep them working properly, the PCM will add fuel to "richen up" the fuel mixture to cool down the exhaust gases when the temperature is estimated to exceed 1650 degrees. This will significantly reduce power output when it kicks in.

So, if you have the catalytic converters removed, then you should disable this so that you dont have this strategy kicking in. But, if you have your catalytic converters still on the vehicle, then you should leave it alone so that you dont damage your cats.

So, if you have cats, how high should you set this in order to keep them cool and minimize duration of the performance hit when it kicks in?

in my u7198 9r15, the temp is indicated really low, something like 85deg...

This requires a custom tune.

You can not turn off the cats. You have to remove them.....................and then turn off the COT. There are no other options.
