I have same issue this week with 2006 duamax and code P0403. paid $476 on last Thursday to dealer and found out Sat. that this item is a warranty issue. 50 thousand or 10 years. It is Federal emmissions warranty. I have 48K on truck. I will be talking to my dea;er Monday AM!
There diagnosis was EGR Valve stuck, replace EGR motor/ Solenoid and cleaned. Reprogram ECM.
On another note I paid to have Intermediate steering shaft replaced because of noise that only I could hear for 4 years and then I find out that service bullinten came out in March of 2008 on this item.It sounds and feels like loose shock. Should have GM part replced with Borgeson shaft to eliminate the noise and rattle.

WOT with 65hp tune 2007 GMC 2500HD

Post by whitedmaxxcab »

I recently made a trip from Harrisburg,Pa to home ,,Iowa. I got lousy fuel mileage with the first tank of fuel,, around 15, I usually get 20 or better. I just figured that I got a bad tank of fuel. I also had a lot of smoke when ever I accelerated. The second tank was no better.

My truck is a 2007 GMC Sierra classic 2500HD with Duramax/Allison and I usually run the 65hp tune.

The check engine light came on and was on for 2 or 3 days ,, then it went out on it's own.
I made an appointment to get it checked and they said that it was excessive EGR flow. They did the cleaning thing and updated the ECM.

When I left the dealership I had to stop at the hardware store and when I walked out I decided to put my 65hp tune back in.
I plugged the predator in and proceded to install the tune there in the parking lot. When the predator said that it was done I unplugged it and started the truck. I put the trans in drive and touched the gas pedal,,,,, this is when things got interesting.
As soon as I touched the gas pedal the engine went to WOT,,,,, in the parking lot. I shut the key off and pulled over to the side of the parking lot. The truck would turn over but wouldn't start. I plugged the predator back in and put the stock tune back in and it ran fine.

When I got home I tried the 65hp tune again,,, same results. Started the truck, left it in park, and touched the gas pedal,,,,WOT.

I bought my predator 3 years ago and have used it on 2 different trucks with great results. I have not had any updates done to the predator.
It is a U7186 version 1R16

This has to be something with the ECM update that the dealer installed,,,, what do I do now ?

Yes, it is 100% related to the dealer update, simple fix.

Make sure stock tune is back in the truck, and update the Predator to the latest version on our website, and all will be well.

OK ! I downloaded the revision update instructions, the DSdownloader, Bought the $40 cable from radio shack, installed the drivers for the cable, downloaded the latest version for my device , followed the instructions and it fails to upload to the Predator.

It says that there are 8202 packets of information, it flies to #8195 and then sits there for 5-10 minutes and then says that the download failed.

I tried downloading the new version twice to my laptop and then downloaded it from the PC in the house to a flash drive ,,,,,, it still doesn't want to work.

What now ???????

a little later...............
Now when I power up the predator I get the Kros screen, then Booting duramax , and then,,,,,,,,,,,,,, A BLANK SCREEN !!!!!!!!!!!!

And once again,,,,,,,,WHAT NOW ?????????????????

I have been reading on here for several hours and found a similar issue as mine. Found the 9r08 crom and put it in the predator.
The file transferred to the tool correctly,, the menu returned and I thought all was good. I plugged it into the truck and went to performance tune. The screen read "Back up in tool does not match vehicle" and it wouldn't let me install a tune.
The truck has the stock tune in it,,, there shouldn't be a backup in the predator,,, right ????

Any way, what do I do about the "Back up in tool does not match vehicle" ???

Did you maybe not restore the backup before you updated?

Thats what it sounds like....

My truck was undriveable with any tune after the dealer changed the ECM,, the WOT thing. I had restored the truck to stock several days before taking it to the dealer. I restored the original program (stock ) to be able to drive it .

Does the predator hold a copy of the original backup even with the truck restored to original ?
If it does then the programs wouldn't match because of the dealer update.
I don't know,, I'm asking to learn !!

Thank you!

I restored the original program (stock ) to be able to drive it . Any tune at all (before the update) would create the WOT condition,,, I had to restore to original to be able to drive the truck.
If I understand correctly,, when you restore original tune that should also unlock the predator from the vehicle. But,, when I check the predator, plugged into the computer and not in the truck,, my VIN number is there.

Here's what I have,, truck was restored to original ( stock ) before going to dealer,, dealer updated ECM,, predator would install tune but truck was undriveable,,restored back to original ( stock ),, updated predator with 9r08 crom ,,,newest version 9r12 would not load to the predator,, now predator will not install tune because "Back up in tool does not match vehicle"

I need your expert advice to get this back to an operational condition !!

If it shows your VIN under options/show last tune written, then it has a copy f the stock tune in it and something went wrong here.

If you are sure the truck is stock, we can reset the tool and let it take a new backup and start from scratch.

If we reset it, and the tune in the truck is not stock, it will need to be reflashed at a dealership to make it work again.

I just checked under options/last tune written and it reads " Modify stock tune ". When I press continue it shows a calId of A12604098 And my VIN number.
What does this do for the situation ?

If it has to be reset, how do I go about that ?

Thank You for your help !!

At this point, yuou need to have the truck fladshed to stock, fax me proof of that, then call within an hour to have the tool unlocked so it will work again, as the tune on your truck is not stock right now.
