Thermostats

Post by Rnhall »

Whats with the colder thermostat kick? My Corvette has a 195 and I see where people are going to 160 and 180's.
Isn't this just faking out the ECM so it enriches the mixture?
NASCAR runs at 220.

cooler air an fuel temp means more power. has nothin to do with faking the comp. nascar runs 220 to 240 cause thats what happens when a 14 to 1 engine turns 9000rpm for 4hrs.

If the engine is getting air from in front of the radiator of which is a s cool as it going to get. What is there to gain from a slightly cooler running engine?
My car is not a daily driver so if I lower the running temp the oil temp never gets over 200 degrees. You need 215 or above to boil of the maccumulated moisture.

overall engine temp effects under hood temps which heat up intake tubing fuel lines plus carb/tb and intake. your right bout gettin coldest air upfront but your intake heats up the incoming air. if your worried bout your oil get a inline fuel cooler and wrap your intake tubing with heat protective tape/wrap
