I know you had said you had some vehicles you were testing this on, any luck with finding out the issue here Mike? Was really hoping to get a new program uploaded before a trip next week. Thanks for your effort.

next week? I have been waiting 6 weeks. Just hoping and praying I don't throw away hundreds of dollars. I wouldn't count on the next week, or the week after.......looking into other options at this point, and hoping something pulls through. Just glad to see this is a common issue. Well....kinda.

I would like to know specifically where you guys are standing with the fix for these faulty units. Every customer paid a premium price for something that obviously doesn't work as advertised and it seems like communication is lacking. Judging from the fact that it seems this particular programer has a major fault and has basically been rendered non-functional by your latest update you guys seriously need to keep some dialogue on how you are remedying the problem before this progresses any further. There are enough people who have bought this unit that now are left with $400+ programers that do little more than provide a bulky two pound paperweight. I understand you are looking for a solution but this is going beyond reasonable for consumer patience. It seems that people have been pushed off for quite some time without any fix other than baseless promises that never seem to be met. At this point legal action would also not be unreasonable as I am sure there are more than enough angry customers. From what I read your products are generally solid preformers but this unit (or a portion of them) happen happen to have some hardware/software flaw that you guys either can not locate, or have simply decided not to pursue. I can't say if you have given up on this unit hoping your new programer will just phase it out ultimately leaving most to just forget about it and discard their current units. I can tell you this issue will not go away and I will pursue it through legal channels if necessary. Please advise on status and either provide a definate date for a software upgrade, exchange or refund for these defective units.

Regards,

We have solved this issue in house on the 04 models with this error message.

We are still sorting out a few other bugs, and as soon as I get the OK to send this new update out as a Beta release, I wll do so.

Im hoping for tomorrow.

I sent u an email. I hope the new crom will work but since i still have the original issue with the tuner displaying the message i stated and locking up the downloader, i am left still unable to even attempt to update it. Is there a way to wipe the tuner clean and update it with the latest crom?

as I replied in the email, this can be fixed by using the legacy connect settings in DSDL.

I will post it here for anyone else that need to do this:

Using Legacy connect

Some older versions of Predator software cannot be auto detected by the DSDownloader. Any tool with a revision starting with 7rxx and some older 8rxx revisions will fall into this category. Any tool with a 9rxx revision will auto connect, and should not require legacy connection. If your tool requires Legacy connection, follow these steps.

1. Before updating your Predator or Trinity, you MUST restore the stock tune to the vehicle. This is accomplished by selecting the ‘Original Backup’, and installing it in the vehicles PCM, thus returning the PCM back to stock. If you are unable for whatever reason to restore the stock tune to the vehicle, please contact technical support at 561-908-0040 prior to attempting to update the tool.
2. Power up your Predator and connect it to the PC.
3. Launch the DSDownloader from the desktop icon (looks like our logo on a white background
4. Once DSDL opens up, you’ll see a screen that prompts you to select the tool communication configurations. Select tool type (Predator) and select the current revision level then click accept modifications.
5. At this point, you will see 2 drop down windows at the top of DSDownloader.
6. To determine which COM port to set the downloader to look at, we need to know what COM port the cable has been assigned to. (if uning a straight through serial to serial cable, it will generally be COM1)
7. To find what COM port it is, click the start button on the PC, and right click on My Computer (Computer on Vista), and select properties. Click the hardware tab, then the device manager button (Vista just click the device manager button).
8. In the device manager, go to Ports, and click the + sign next to ports. You should see your USB cable listed here, with the assigned COM port listed in parenthesis (COM 5 for ex.). (If you do not see ports, it may be under ‘other devices’).
9. Take note of the COM port it is assigned to, then set the drop down window on the DSDL to that COM port number, and make sure the baud rate is set to 115200.
10. Now, click the ‘Express Tune’ Tab at the bottom of the DSDownloader.
11. From here, click the ‘Update tool’ button.
12. Now you’ll see a ‘firmware file to download’ window. Browse to where you saved the .crom file and select it, then click Open.
13. A new window will appear titled ‘DiabloSport firmware download’, asking you to power cycle the tool to continue. Unplug the unit from the power source and plug it right back in.
14. Once the unit powers back up, the DSDL will see the power up message and tell you that ‘the tool is ready, do you wish to download firmware?’, click yes, and the DSDownloader will send the crom file to the tool.
15. The DSDownloader will show you the file transfer status. Once the transfer is complete, a message will appear stating ‘download complete’ At this point, do not unplug the tool yet.
16. Watch the tool, it will reboot once the file has finished transferring. If it is a Predator, wait to see the new revision displayed at the top line of the main menu before unplugging it. At this point, you may take the tool to the vehicle and install the Performance tune.

Well, got through the legacy connect fairly easy. Updated the CROM....Still same message when I plug into the truck........I am going to bite my tongue for now since it will only make the issue worse. But I strongly hope for a quicker response time than 2 months for the next "fix". Otherwise, I might be contacting D. Brown and talking to him about further solutions to this problem....at this point I just want this tuner out of my life.

Going to try this on my 05 Grand Cherokee, sincerely hope this works but I have my doubts as I seem to be in the same boat with Dakota21601 but will give it a shot tomorrow anyway and post results.

Mike,

It appears as I thought I am having the same issue as Dakota. No matter what I did the unit links with pc fine but will not allow use of any communication option with vehicle. I was unable to show vin without the Unable to get calibration.....bs screen and I tried to force it to show to no avail. The unit powered up fine when connected to the vehicle but as soon as I tried to read codes, load a tune or do anything aside from the basic menu that would have required data from the vehicle it sometimes acted like it was loading with a progress bar then it would always display the same message of unable to get calibration.... If necessary I can provide my VIN.
